Charles Clarke's interview on the Today programme this morning

Odd how John Humphrys, the interviewer, allowed Charles Clarke is allowed to state that Gordon Brown was a

"brilliant Chancellor of the Exchequer and part of the Blair-Brwon team which delivered for the first time...in the whole of Labour history ... a record of economic competence and effectiveness"

without this opinion being queried; I wonder why that might be? The Labour narrative, even amongst the anti-Brown camp, is that this has only been a problem since Gordon Brown became Prime Minister and that presentational changes could make the difference.
