Why are the Israelis indiscriminately killing Palestinian civilians?

An oft heard claim in recent days has been that "Israel is targeting civilians" or "why are the Israelis indiscriminately killing Palestinian civilians?". These claims strike me as somewhat odd bearing in mind the following:
1. If Israel has been deploying massive air power to bomb Gaza for days, indiscriminately dropping hundreds of bombs but has only killed a grand total of 50 civilians or so in "one of the most crowded place on earth?" then either a) The Israeli army is not targeting civilians, or b) Israeli pilots are missing their targets due to ineptitude. Most likely option A is the case, indeed it seems that Israel is as always going to great lengths to avoid civilian casualties, by deploying precise ammunition and specialized techniques.

Meanwhile Hamas representative Fathi Hamad said earlier this year that (my emphasis):
"For the Palestinian people death became an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: We desire death as you desire life."

Maybe the BBC could raise this point with the Hamas apologists who fill their screens, but somehow I doubt that they will.
