It seems as though Vaclav Klaus is going to give into pressure and sign the Czech Republic's assent to the Lisbon Treaty. This means that the UK will be denied the referendum we were promised by all three main political parties before the last General Election. This is manifestly (pun intended) unfair and so could we not petition the Queen to dissolve Parliament thus forcing an immediate general election? Would that give a Conservative government enough time to organise a referendum and so belatedly kill of the Lisbon Treaty?
In fact the answer is almost certainly that unless the UK leaves the EU, or at least fundamentally renegotiates its conditions of membership, there is no rowing back. The EU is like a train on a set of rails heading in one direction, it cannot be steered elsewhere all it can be is slightly delayed by application of the brakes.
