Predicting the climate

The 'warmists' are always very certain that they know what the climate will be doing in five, ten, twenty, fifty years and they find ready pushers of their line in the BBC and other left-wing media. So it was with great interest that I read that:
"According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event".

"Children just aren't going to know what snow is," he said.

...

David Parker, at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research in Berkshire, says ultimately, British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes - or eventually "feel" virtual cold."
The above are extracts from an Independent news piece from March 2000.

Now 'warmists' would point to this line as 'proof' of the rightness of their position:
"Heavy snow will return occasionally, says Dr Viner, but when it does we will be unprepared. "We're really going to get caught out. Snow will probably cause chaos in 20 years time," he said."
But if you think about it that is a great line, if there is no snow then that's because of global warming an if there is snow that causes problems then that's because of global warming too... To the 'warmist' every climatic change, every weather event is proof of climate change; this is not science it's a f**king replacement for religion.

As an aside, I wonder if "Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia" has any interesting emails in the recent ClimateGate collection...
