More threats of terrorist attacks in Europe

Sky News reports that
'Japan has issued a travel alert for Europe increasing fears al Qaeda or another terrorist group is planning a series of attacks.

...

The warnings come after British intelligence obtained information about an al Qaeda-linked plot last week.

Officials said the planned attack would have been similar to the commando-style raids in India two years ago..

Cities in Germany and France would have been hit at the same time apparently.'
What gets me is the advice that governments give; the Japanese are saying to be vigilant and stay away from crowded places such as rail and bus stations, the Americans to be cautious when using public transport and visiting popular tourist sites. Yes that's easy in a European city, avoiding crowded places and as a tourist avoiding rail and bus stations might be tricky. Surely there should be something more our governments could do to protect us from terrorists who want to kill as many of us as possible. How about closing our borders to travel from Pakistan for a start?

What is the statistical chance of being victim of a terrorist attack ?
Not far from zero, I think.
