Beyond parody

I know, I've said it before but this government keeps upping the stakes. Today I read that Hazel Blears has been reading up on the operating manuals of the Stasi and Securitate. Her new plan is for children to be enlisted to patrol the streets in the Governments latest attempt to combat anti-social behaviour. "An under-age army of "snoopers" aged 12 to 14 would be asked to report back on problems such as graffiti, vandalism, litter and dangerous buildings."
Wait it gets better....

"The Junior Neighbourhood Wardens would not be paid for their time but must have a clear record with their schools and police."
"The Junior Wardens are given uniforms and books in which they record problems such as vandalism and graffiti. They can also report dangerous or poorly maintained buildings and paths to the Neighbourhood Wardens."
Why does the phrase Hitler Youth come to mind here? Actually children informing on their parents reminds me of Hitler's Third REich, Stalin's Soviet Union, Caecescu's Romania, any number of Communist dictatorships of the 1950s to 1990s and of course George Orwell's 1984.

"However, those who report the most incidences of anti-social behaviour in a month would be rewarded with a family outing by local councils."
Prizes for the most "fingers", that sounds a good idea, that won't cause false accusations.

"Communities Secretary Hazel Blears insisted yesterday that the idea in an official report was "fantastic""
Remember that for when the plan is discontinued and discredited, for then she will say that she always had reservations about it.

Conservative MP Philip Davies said: "We have gone from having fully fledged police officers, to community support officers and now it appears the Government is going the whole hog by employing children. It is quite extraordinary. If ministers were serious about tackling anti-social behaviour, they should hire more police officers to catch the yobs causing untold misery for the rest of society."

I am not sure but I think that this government is taking the piss now, they just don't care what anyone thinks of what they do they because they are going to rule for ever. This glorious government is forever, they are right because they are right, "Besides, the Party was in the right. It must be so: how could the immortal, collective brain be mistaken? By what external standard could you check its judgments?"
