Signed up to by Alistair Darling after the general election!

Nick Robinson in his BBC blog lets slip a fascinating fact:

'Although Britain is not in the euro and thus does not contribute to the eurozone crisis fund, we do contribute to an EU crisis "mechanism" - signed up to by Alistair Darling in those five days in May after the election.'

Alistair Darling signed up to this EU crisis 'mechanism' after the general election whilst Gordon Brown was clinging onto power despite losing the election. Should the country be bound by a decision taken by a government that had been comprehensively beaten in a general election?
