Why does Vladimir Putin think he can get away with invading the Ukraine?

When President Obama was taking part in a global nuclear security summit in South Korea, he was caught on tape asking for Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for "space." "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility," Obama implored. Obama assured the departing Russian President he will have the "flexibility" required to deal with missile defense issues after the 2012 presidential election. What other issues might Obama be more flexible over?

The BBC not quite reporting the whole story re the sentencing of the murderers of Lee Rigby

Compare this BBC article with this Telegraph one, specifically the part about the fracas that occurred during sentencing.

The BBC:
'The pair were absent during sentencing after a fracas in the dock.

As Mr Justice Sweeney began to sentence the men they started shouting and scuffling with court security guards. They had to be forced to the ground and were removed from court.

Fusilier Rigby's family wept as Adebolajo shouted "Allahu Akbar", and Adebowale called out "that's a lie" as the judge told them their extremist views were "a betrayal of Islam".

One relative needed medical treatment after the outbursts. The judge later apologised for the fact that the family had to witness what happened in the dock.'

The Telegraph:
'Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, had to be manhandled out of court by security guards after being told by Mr Justice Sweeney that their crime was a “betrayal of Islam”.

...

Angered by the judges’ comments about Islam, Adebowale stood up and shouted: “That’s a lie. It’s not a betrayal of Islam. You don’t know what Islam is.”

The struggle erupted as the murderer yelled: “I swear by Allah that America and Britain will never have any safety. Allahu Akbar [God is Great].”'

I suppose that it is just about possible that an Islamist murderer might know more about Islam than the British High Court Sir Nigel Hamilton Sweeney. But more interesting is that the BBC saw fit to censor what was actually said, why?

The truth slips out about the EU

Well done Bjorn Kjellstrom, Head of the UK Office of the European Parliament, for helping the Eurosceptic cause no end. While berating British journalists in a letter for not correctly reporting EU matters, the grumpy Swede has let the cat out the bag: “not all citizens are aware that possibly a majority of the laws that have an impact on their daily lives are decided on by MEPs in the European Parliament.” Something swivel-eyed Europhiles always try to deny…

When did the Left ditch democracy?

Here's an extract:
'On issue after issue, where they know they cannot win openly, the Left has passed responsibility over to quangocrats and Commissioners, Human Rights lawyers and judicial activists. The Left obtains by top down decree what they cannot win at the ballot box. And the Right loses, even when we win elections.

Far too many on the right still seek either re-heated Thatcherism or a kind of mid-70s, patrician Toryism. Neither will do.

A truly modern Tory party needs to recognise that we must do battle against the Left not merely for votes on polling day. If the Left has created structures that are beyond meaningful democratic accountability, we must embrace direct democracy.  We must be prepared to re-engineer the machinery of the state – the quangos, the senior civil service, the judiciary – and yes, even Parliament – to make them properly answerable to the rest of us.

Either we do that, or we face more defeat and retreat.'

Maureen Lipman cuts ties with Oldie magazine per The Jewish Chronicle

The last line of this Jewish Chronicle piece is just so revealing...
'Actress Maureen Lipman has severed her professional links with The Oldie magazine, claiming she will no longer tolerate its monthly “drip-drip of antisemitic, anti-Jewish, anti-Israel material”.

Ms Lipman is a long-time contributor to the magazine, which was set up 21 years ago by former Private Eye editor Richard Ingrams. She is also a regular judge at its Oldie Of The Year Awards.

But following an article published in its March issue, in which travel writer Dervla Murphy described Hebron as a ghost town left ravaged by the shooting of Palestinians by American-Israeli Baruch Goldstein in 1994, Ms Lipman accused Mr Ingrams of “anti-Zionist bias”.

She said: “There’s an insidious nature to what is being written. Why would I be involved with that?“All I ask for is a level playing-field. They’re grinding babies into powder in Syria — get that in your middle page. I can’t just stand there at my age and contribute to something which is feeding the myth.”

Mr Ingrams said: “I am very disappointed that Maureen will no longer contribute to the magazine, but I’m not surprised because she has been unhappy for a long time about what has been featured in The Oldie.“

She does have a very straightforward view — that critical comments about Israel should be balanced by critical comments about Arab countries.“Well, the BBC may feel itself obliged to give what they call a balanced view, but we’re not under any obligation of that kind.”'

Harriet Harman: the unanswered question

In the BBC coverage of this story and Harriet Harman's online statement I can see no mention of this point: In a letter to the Home Office in April 1978, the NCCL argued that child pornography should not be banned as “indecent” unless it could be shown that the child depicted had been harmed. The NCCL official who wrote this letter was its legal officer, Harriet Harman.

Am I correct, did she sign that letter? Why?

Porn, I'm sorry but there's no other word for these videos - PORN

Now I agree with Gary Kasparov's comments but somehow I don't think he thinks that the Russian President is 'Vladimir Lenin', Vladimir Putin seems more likely.

Dara says BBC ban on all-male TV panel shows is laughable

Apparently BBC director of television Danny Cohen has pledged that "we're not going to have any more panel shows with no women on them".

I'm not too bothered by the new pledge, so long as it's not just endless Jo Brand and that short unfunny lesbian (not Sandi Toksvig, one of the other ones that the BBC adores). No I'm not prejudiced against lesbians, my lesbian friends would back me up on this I'm sure, but the BBC does seem to have a seam of lesbians that they have been mining for a while now; unfortunately they've gone from the decently funny Sandi Toksvig, through the occasionally funny Sue Perkins, to the deeply unfunny Rhona Cameron (coincidentally Sue Perkins' ex) and finally to the woeful Susan Calman who I've just remembered the name of, but not any of her jokes.

I wonder if the BBC will also look for political parity on panel shows, or is an over representation of extreme lefty types such as Mark Steele and Jeremy Hardy fine so long as Jeremy Clarkson appears once in a blue moon?

The BBC's attitude to bias is in itself deeply biased.

The reality behind food banks and the Labour/BBC's line on them

Media Personage: "Mr Average, you use a food bank. Correct?"

Mr Average: "That's right. I mean, why pay for food when you can get it for free?"

MP: "But why have you started to use one now? Is it because the evil Coalition have been deliberately starving you on ideological grounds?"

MrA: "Not really. It's just that I didn't realise that there were people giving away free food until I read about them in the paper on my way to work."

MP: "And there you have it: more and more people are using food banks because the evil Coalition—cruelly limiting a household's benefits to an equivalent pre-tax income of a mere £34,000—are starving them utterly to death. On purpose. Back to you in the studio, Tom."

Tom: "Er…"
I think Devil's Kitchen has it about right, don't you?

"...Get them to investigate me and others and publish a Hutton style report.”

"...Get them to investigate me and others and publish a Hutton style report.”
That was one very odd line from an email sent from Rebekah Brooks to James Murdoch re a long telephone conversation Rebekah Brooks claimed to have with Tony Blair.

"... publish a Hutton style report." Whatever does that mean?

Oh hold on... there's more:

"... Publish part one of the report at same time as the police closes its inquiry and clear you and accept short comings and new solutions and process and part two when any trials are over."
Make sense yet?

More at Guido Fawkes

But always remember that despite the anti-Conservative slant that  the BBC have very carefully placed on the phone-hacking story, it happened in mostly Labour supporting papers, when Labour were in power and when much of the Labour leadership were best of friends with Murdoch, Brooks etc. Who is as godfather to one of Rupert Murdoch's children? Not david Cameron, but Tony Blair.

BBC secret exposed: Greenpeace, activists, BP decide what "science" brits see -- Hello TwentyEightGate << JoNova

'... The BBC, supposedly the public owned broadcaster, had a meeting with 28 climate experts in Jan 2006 where it decided on its policies on climate coverage. It led to the extraordinary move of the BBC abandoning any semblance of impartiality (a principle that’s so important it’s written into its charter). In the meantime, the BBC did everything it could to hide those influential experts names. It’s been nearly seven years since the seminar, but now we know why their names were top secret. No one is even pretending this was about “the science”. The BBC has become a PR wing of Greenpeace."

ICHR: Human Rights Violations Continue, Increase in the PA and Gaza

'Human rights violations, including death and murder, continued to be practiced by the Palestinian Authority and by the Hamas government in Gaza, this according to as report by the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) presenting a comprehensive overview of the major violations during January, 2014, in the Palestinian controlled areas. The report depicts a general state of anarchy and lawlessness in the PA.'

Palestinians deprive their own people of clean water for propaganda...and the world accepts it !

'... the PA has built just one sewage plant over the past 15 years, despite  a $500 million international donor fund available to them to build more. There are plans for building purification plants in several major Palestinian towns such as Hebron, Bethlehem and Nablus, paid for by donor countries, but the Palestinians have decided that they don’t want to build in the Oslo defined Areas A and B under their control, but only in Area C (which is under full Israeli military, and administrative control). Israel has stringent regulations for these and similar projects in other parts of Israel which the Palestinians have no interest in complying with ( and wouldn't have to in areas A & B) so they have built none of these plants. '

BBC News - UK storms: Two die as fierce storms continue

IRA victims use Twitter to hijack Sinn Fein conference - Latest - Belfast Newsletter

Sheer genius, but do Sinn Fein members have conscience over what IRA did?
' Sinn Fein members attending their annual party conference in Wexford at the weekend were reminded of the unresolved issues facing them as hundreds of posts about IRA atrocities were made online by victims and their relatives.

A number of victims took to social networking site Twitter to state the names of their loved ones and the dates of various IRA murders and bombings, using a hashtag that had been created by the party specifically for the conference.'

Is the current rain in the UK caused by 'climate change'?

'Truly, AGW is a magical theory that explains absolutely everything – including diametrically contradictory phenomena, lack of logic and absence of evidence – whenever people observe profoundly, ‘Something funny’s happening to the weather’.

I have another theory to explain the current deluge. It is Galileo, Newton and Einstein weeping uncontrollably from above.'

Britons 'too ignorant' for EU referendum says Viviane Reding, VP of European Commission via Mail Online

'Britons 'too ignorant' for EU referendum: Top official says debate on Europe is so distorted that people could not make an 'informed decision'

Viviane Reding, vice-president of European Commission, made commentsSpeaking in London, she said British people must know 'the facts' on EUShe boasted about how 70 per cent of UK's laws are now made in Brussels

Her comments were attacked by critics for 'dangerous' assumptions

Britons are too ignorant about Europe to vote in a referendum on the subject, a top Brussels official claimed last night.Viviane Reding, vice-president of the European Commission, said the British debate about Europe was so ‘distorted’ that people could not make an ‘informed decision’ about whether or not to stay in the EU.

Mrs Reding - who boasted that 70 per cent of the UK’s laws are now made in Brussels - also rubbished David Cameron’s bid to curb immigration from Europe, saying it was incompatible with membership of the EU.'

The EU gets more anti Democratic by the day, and that's from a pretty low initial level.

US easing immigration rule for terrorist support - Yahoo News

Barack Obama and the war on terrorism... He's not really on our side...
' The Department of Homeland Security and the State Department now say that people considered to have provided "limited material support" to terrorists or terrorist groups are no longer automatically barred from the United States.

A post-Sept. 11 provision in immigrant law, known as terrorism related inadmissibility grounds, had affected anyone considered to have given support. With little exception, the provision has been applied rigidly to those trying to enter the U.S. and those already here but wanting to change their immigration status.'

Look behind the Iran warships headed to U.S. borders

A fascinating piece that deserves readership if only as a counter to the Obama worshipping media...
'While the Iranian warships are certainly no match for our navy, it is important to understand that we are seeing a geopolitical game of 3-D chess play out before us. Like chess, moves are calculated far in advance and often, moves are made for purposes other than direct confrontation. Sometimes, moves are made to spread out the other player’s pieces. Make no mistake, the Iranian ships are pieces on this board and under Putin’s control.'

BBC News - Prince William goes hunting a day before wildlife plea

The BBC's Republican sympathies are on display with the lead in to this article...
'Prince on hunt before wildlife plea
Prince William has gone hunting deer and wild boar in Spain - only a day before he was due to make a public plea to end the illegal wildlife trade.'

That lead in suggests to the casual reader that Prince William might have done something illegal by going hunting when he hadn't. The BBC do state this in the actual article but the seed has been planted.

Hunting is not illegal, however much the BBC might wish it was.

The oldest subway in the world

A fascinating story...
' The Atlantic Avenue Tunnel holds theGuinness world record for "oldest subway tunnel," predating the Tremont Street subway in Boston from 1897, the 312-foot Beach Pneumatic Transit tunnel in Manhattan from 1869, and the first subway in the London Underground, which was built in 1863. "Trains actually passed through it, preceded by a man on horseback," wrote the Brooklyn Eagle in 1911'

Sheer genius from Joy Division

Joy Dicision - Atmosphere

Walk in silence,
Don't walk away, in silence.
See the danger,
Always danger,
Endless talking,
Life rebuilding,
Don't walk away.

Walk in silence,
Don't turn away, in silence.
Your confusion,
My illusion,
Worn like a mask of self-hate,
Confronts and then dies.
Don't walk away.

People like you find it easy,
Naked to see,
Walking on air.
Hunting by the rivers,
Through the streets,
Every corner abandoned too soon,
Set down with due care.
Don't walk away in silence,
Don't walk away.

If you've struggled with the last two day's Countdown Numbers games, try this one!

A little easier?
