Yet Israel is 'the apartheid state'?

The BBC report that:

'People living in Syria's eastern Hasaka region are to be granted Syrian nationality by a decree from President Bashar al-Assad, according to state TV.

Many inhabitants of the region are Kurds, who make up about 10% of Syria's 22.5m population.
Kurds in Syria frequently complain of discrimination.

President Assad - who is under pressure from pro-democracy protests - met Kurdish leaders in the city of Hasaka on Tuesday to hear their demands.

The decree comes after he tasked a committee with examining the census of 1962 which was responsible for depriving some 120,000 Kurds in Hasaka - 20% of the total - of their citizenship.

It was not immediately clear how many Kurds Thursday's decree will affect, but it is estimated between 150,000 and 300,000 Kurds will benefit.'

So between 120,000 and 300,000 Kurds have been denied Syrian nationality for nearly 50 years and this is the first time that I can recall the BBC covering the story and they are only covering it because President Bashar al-Assad is granting them citizenship. Yes the BBC allow people to spout the line that 'Israel is an apartheid state' although all citizens of Israel can vote and have pretty much equal rights before the law. There are exceptions surrounding Arabs not being called up for military  service and around working in the nuclear industry, I believe.

Imagine if (part ..)

Imagine the BBC joy and wall-to-wall coverage if Israel had been accused of using chemical weapons against Hamas 'militants'. The Israeli ambassador would be ritually (and metaphorically) disembowled on the Today Programme, Ron Prossor would be harangued by Jeremy Paxman and the BBC coverage would detail every allegation in great detail. Meanwhile the United Nations would be in uproar as resolutions condemning Israel were passe and a full 'impartial' investigation was planned.

Contrast that with the complete lack of interest by the BBC or the United Nations in the news that photographs

'show PKK fighters killed by chemical weapons used by Turks have been confirmed by German experts, according to a Der Spiegel report, Thursday.

The German newspaper reported that the evidence puts added pressure on the Turkish government.'

Once again there is one rule for Israel and quite another for other countries, especially Islamic ones.

Where's the indignation? Where's the marches? Where's the denunciations? Where's the UN resolutions?

The BBC quietly report that:

'Turkish troops in pursuit of Kurdish rebels have crossed into northern Iraq and killed four militants, Turkish officials say.

The military said air strikes were also launched against rebel positions deeper inside Iraqi territory.

The offensive took place after rebels made an unsuccessful attack on border guards, Turkish officials said.

Turkey has been fighting insurgents of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) for more than a quarter of a century.

Military officials said three commando companies and one special forces battalion penetrated 3km (two miles) into Iraq in pursuit of the rebels.

The PKK is fighting for autonomy in Turkey's largely Kurdish south-east.

The group is considered a terrorist group, not just by Turkey but by the US and the EU.

More than 40,000 people are believed to have died in the conflict, on both sides. '

That's it, a small report not headline news. If an Israeli soldier so much as farts in the direction of Gaza its headline news but as Israel is not involved here it is a minor story. 40,000 deaths and how much coverage has this 'conflict' had over the years? 4 deaths this time and not a peep from James Naughtie, Jeremy Paxman or Jon Snow. Will they be interviewing a spokesman for the Turkish government and accusing them of using disproportionate force? If not, why not?

Note also that in this report the BBC report that the PKK 'is considered a terrorist group, not just by Turkey but by the US and the EU.'. No mention of Hamas's terrorist status in any stories about Israel and Hamas though.
