'It is evident that the attacks, and others before and since on US and allied forces around the world, have won the Islamist groups responsible considerable sympathy far beyond the Muslim world, including among those vehemently opposed from a variety of ideological perspectives to the principal manifestations of its power. It is striking, however, that - beyond such often visceral reactions – there are signs of a far more developed and politically articulated accommodation in many parts of the world between Islamism as a political force and many groups of the left.

The latter show every indication of appearing to see some combination of al-Qaida, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hizbollah, Hamas, and (not least) Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as exemplifying a new form of international anti-imperialism that matches – even completes – their own historic project. This putative combined movement may be in the eyes of such leftist groups and intellectual trends hampered by “false consciousness”, but this does not compromise the impulse to “objectively” support or at least indulge them.

The trend is unmistakable. Thus the Venezuelan leader Hugo Chávez flies to Tehran to embrace the Iranian president. London’s mayor Ken Livingstone, and the vocal Respect party member of the British parliament George Galloway, welcome the visit to the city of the Egyptian cleric (and Muslim Brotherhood figurehead) Yusuf al-Qaradawi. Many in the sectarian leftist factions (and beyond) who marched against the impending Iraq war showed no qualms about their alignment with radical Muslim organisations, one that has since spiralled from a tactical cooperation to something far more elaborated. It is fascinating to see in the publications of leftist groups and commentators, for example, how history is being rewritten and the language of political argument adjusted to (as it were) accommodate this new accommodation.'

So that's the BBC's dictator of choice, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, accusing the United States of causing the earthquake in Haiti. It seems that Chavez believes the U.S. was testing a tectonic weapon to produce eco-type devastation. Last week it was reported that Chavez had accused the United States of using Haiti’s earthquake as a pretext to occupy the Caribbean country. It seems that Chavez has said that these "weapon earthquakes" would eventually be used against Iran and that these weapons can alter the climate and set off earthquakes and volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves.

Hmmm, I say "wibble", what say the BBC who seem not have reported the latest ravings of their number two favourite dictator - number one is of course Fidel Castro.

The BBC's love for Fidel Castro the butcher President for life of Cuba was well documented and they have more recently fallen for the iron man charms of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. It is therefore unlikely that the BBC will allow stories such as this one in The Telegraph to sully their coverage of the great man.

"Several senior opposition figures have been banned from standing for office by the government-controlled judiciary.

Leopoldo Lopez, who was the favourite to win the elections' top prize, mayor of Caracas, was barred on the grounds of corruption despite having no conviction or any pending trial.

"The façade of democracy is crumbling," said Mr Lopez, 37, from his offices in the exclusive district of Chacao in Caracas.

"A court has ruled I cannot hold political office until 2014, ensuring that I cannot stand for these elections, those of the national assembly in 2010, or for the presidency in 2012."

Other opposition candidates, including Mr Chavez's former wife, have accused the controversial Venezuelan leader of effectively becoming a dictator.

Marisabel Rodriguez, standing for mayor of her home town of Barquisimeto, said: "Chavez wants to control every aspect of our lives. He will not be happy until he had set up a Cuban-style dictatorship here." "

Ken Livingstone is to work as a consultant to a tyrant who supports terrorism in neighbouring states via groups such as FARC and who proclaimed his "brotherhood" with Saddam Hussein and bestowed kind words on the Taliban. Ken Livingstone is to work as a consultant to a man who maintains close economic and diplomatic ties with the leaders of Iran and Libya.

Another Barack Obama "mistake"

Further to this article and its predecessor here, reports of another Barack Obama "mistake". This is from Barack Obama's own website:

Maybe someone should tell Barack Obama that the nasty Hugo Chavez was elected in 1998, when Bill Clinton was still in the White House, a full two years before George W. Bush took over the Presidency. But then facts are of little importance to the man who will bring "change"; no details just "change".

It appears that the Hugo Chavez regime much loved by the western media and especially the BBC presided over a country that in the "last three months" of 2007 experienced around 3,000 murders whilst there were "1,498 civilian fatalities in Iraq". "For the last three months of 2007, a Venezuelan was twice as likely to lose his life to violence as an Iraqi".

I wonder if the BBC will report this...
