Like John Lydon, Guido seems to think we have been conned:

Inflation is a pernicious form of taxation, it punishes the old and those who save and leads to a worse reckoning in the end. We are being deliberately swindled by the political elite.'

For more of my thoughts on why deflation was never the worry but inflation was, you could start with reading this piece noting that:

'Governments printing money to get out of a problem leads to inflation every time and this time will be no different. Don't say you weren't warned... '

And this to be reminded of Andrew Lilico, chief economist at Policy Exchange, predictions that interest rates may rise to 8% within two years so as to try and choke rising inflation... In fact the scariest of Andrew Lilico's predictions is that if the economy cannot stand such high interest rates then the solution may be inflation peaking at 20%.

US Treasury caught lying - I am not shocked

Market Ticker reports that:

"Last night Hal Turner (who has a reputation that is best described as heavily-adorned with Reynolds Wrap) published this:

The Turner Radio Network has obtained "stress test" results for the top 19 Banks in the USA.

....

1) Of the top nineteen (19) banks in the nation, sixteen (16) are already technically insolvent.

2) Of the 16 banks that are already technically insolvent, not even one can withstand any disruption of cash flow at all or any further deterioration in non-paying loans.

3) If any two of the 16 insolvent banks go under, they will totally wipe out all remaining FDIC insurance funding.

4) Of the top 19 banks in the nation, the top five (5) largest banks are under capitalized so dangerously, there is serious doubt about their ability to continue as ongoing businesses.

He then goes on to list things that we know to be factual, including derivatives exposure (mostly in interest-rate swaps and similar.)

This appears to have led to Treasury issuing the following statement this morning:

The U.S. Treasury Department has not yet received the results of "stress tests'' on the health of the nation's 19 top banks, spokesman Andrew Williams said Monday, after a blog said it had obtained the test results and some U.S. bank shares moved lower.

That's a lie.

How do we know its a lie?

Because of this from April 10th:

April 10 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Federal Reserve has told Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Citigroup Inc. and other banks to keep mum on the results of “stress tests” that will gauge their ability to weather the recession, people familiar with the matter said.

The Fed wants to ensure that the report cards don’t leak during earnings conference calls scheduled for this month. Such a scenario might push stock prices lower for banks perceived as weak and interfere with the government’s plan to release the results in an orderly fashion later this month.

How can you be ordered not to release something you don't have?

Since that was published on the 10th of April, we therefore know that the results exist and Treasury, the banks involved and The Fed have them, as The Fed was concerned that some banks might try to use them (perhaps in a misleading fashion) during their first quarter conference calls and earnings releases.

Sorry guys, but whether Hal Turner has the real results or not is no longer material. What's material is the claim that Treasury doesn't have them, since they told the banks on the 10th not to release them, and you can't release what you don't have.

The problem with lying is that eventually you forget your previous lies and thus get caught when you contradict yourself."

The four lies told by Gordon Brown at PMQs 16 June 2008

Fraser Nelson at the Spectator Coffee House has details on the four lies told by Gordon Brown during PMQs yesterday. I wonder if anyone will raise these with Gordon Brown at any point? Maybe "little Ant and Dec" could do so, because I don't see Gordon Brown agreeing to be interviewed by anyone more heavyweight. For the avoidance of doubt, I think that "little Ant and Dec" ask far harder questions than Nick Robinson or Andrew Marr; the latter seeming more interested in the possibility of receiving in the future "an honour" for services to broadcasting, than in getting an honest answer out of our Prime Minister.

The constitution has been abandoned - oh no it hasn't (update)

Further to my recent recent post saying re the repeated Government claims that "The constitution...is abandoned" that "the Government line is a lie, a deliberate lie." My article explains the reasons why I claim this and you can also go and read EU Referendum's article on the same matter. "When it comes to defending his beloved treaty, foreign secretary David Miliband is a liar. Not once, but many times offering a naked, unreconstructed, obvious lie...Thus is Miliband's case built. It is rather appropriate that, like the construct he so loves, he has to rely on a diet of lies and deception."

Gordon Brown - "a liar"

The BBC are reporting that "The Conservatives are demanding a fresh Commons statement over the bugging of an MP which they say has made a "liar" of the Prime Minister Gordon Brown. It followed the revelation Home Office and Ministry of Justice officials were told about the incident in December. Shadow home secretary David Davis said the case made the PM a "liar" as it countered prime ministerial pledges to protect MPs from bugging."

So far the BBC are reporting the Conservative claims and then the Labour response. I wonder how long before the story becomes about the response not the claim?. Already the BBC have put very prominently "Commons leader Harriet Harman says Mr Davis should "apologise" to Mr Brown. She told BBC Radio 4's World at One there was "no justification" for his accusation."

Gordon Brown and democracy

Tonight at around 10pm the House of Commons will vote on whether MPs will be restricted to 12 days debate on the EU Treaty or whether they will be allowed more. I have blogged before about the sheer lack of respect for democracy that Gordon Brown is showing over this matter "Having reneged on his promise of a referendum, Gordon Brown then promised us that Parliament would have ample time to debate the Treaty so making a referendum unnecessary; 20-25 days was the period that was being promised by the Government. Then we discover that although MPs will be able to debate the Treaty they will be unable to amend even one word of it, not that they were given the Treaty to read before the debate started. Then we learned that the Labour MPs would be under a three line whip to support the Government position, so only the very brave would vote against the Government."

The UK is being sold down the river over this matter and the BBC just ignore it as they see the EU as the good guys as opposed to the US bad boys.

Gurkhas will be sacked early to reduce their pension rights

This story, if true, is disgusting. "THE Ministry of Defence (MoD) is facing legal action over plans to cut the pensions of Gurkhas by sacking them three years before they are due to leave the army.

The move, which means the MoD will avoid having to pay an ordinary Gurkha soldier more than £200,000, is to be challenged in the courts by the British Armed Forces Federation (BAFF).

The policy was introduced by civil servants after they were forced to increase the Gurkhas’ pay and pensions to bring them into line with the rest of the army. An official briefing document on the new pension scheme shows that 80%-85% of Gurkhas will be discharged early, so missing the better payments.

They will lose out not only on the immediate pension they would get after 18 years’ service but also on a lump sum departure payment of the equivalent of three years’ pension."

This government has no shame or morals. Do read the whole article in today's Sunday Times.

An interesting article re 7/7 London bombings

Take a read of this from the Guardian last year. "A computer expert who worked alongside two of the July 7 bombers claims today that he tried to warn the police about their activities almost two years before the suicide attacks."

I believe that the police and security services were not taking the threat from Islamic terrorists (home-grown or imported) seriously enough prior to 7/7 and that there has been a degree of covering up taking place. Tony Blair's refusal to hold an independent enquiry into the 7/7 bombings. After news emerged that two of the bombers had connections with a gang of would be bombers who were under MI5 surveillance and that this information had been kept from the jury in the trial of the plotters who were sent to jail for life, Mr Blair said the ISC had agreed to look again at the matter but he denied suggestions they had not been given all the information that was now available. He said a full-blown inquiry by an outside body would divert resources from the fight against the terrorist.

He added: ''It would also undermine support for the security services and I’m simply not prepared to do that.’’

Mr Blair said he understood the concerns of the survivors and the relatives of the bereaved on July 7."

Mr Blair does not understand the concerns of the survivors and relatives, I know (and know of) some of these people and they want to know why what happened, happened. They deserve better than to be lied to by this government.

Global Warming - Is it even happening?

I know I have blogged about this subject before, most importantly here, here, here, here, here, here and here. However I make no apology for doing so again; the fact is that the reported earth temperature is only increasing due to the adjustments made by various agencies.

The Climate Skeptic has a very detailed article about this matter, with three easy to read and understand graphs. If you want a commentary on the Climate Skeptic article then I can recommend Devils Kitchen post.

There is also a link at Devils Kitchen to a site that I have linked to before Surface Stations a site that "was created in response to the realization that very little physical site survey data exists for the entire United States Historical Climatological Network (USHCN) and Global Historical Climatological Network (GHCN) surface station records worldwide."

Two of the sites' goals are "To photographically document good sites that have been well preserved and maintained through their history" and "To photographically document poor examples of sites that may introduce biases and errors through faulty siting, encroachments, or maintenance issues, and to identify specific issues when possible". These goals are best explained by taking a look at this section which shows a number of badly positioned or otherwise compromised US weather stations.

Spread the word about this. We are being lied to in order for our governments to exert even more control over us and in order to raise even more in taxes from us.

Red Lines and Opt Outs

Tony Bliar and The Nose Picker have both laid great store by the non-negotiable red lines and opt-outs they have negotiated regarding the Constitution Treaty. Unfortunately senior EU officials have have confirmed that Britain's red line opt-out from the Charter of Fundamental Rights is not worth the paper it is written on. Margot Wallstrom, the European Commission vice president said that the charter will apply to vast swathes of British law. If the UK ratify the Constitution Treaty then the Charter including the right to strike will be enforceable by the European courts.

WE MUST HAVE A REFERENDUM.

Government caught out lying again

A few weeks back (on 21 May) the Government stated that only one per cent of social housing is given to immigrants this was in an attempt to quell widespread fears that they are treated better by local authorities than people born in Britain. Now I read that "after an investigation by ITV's Tonight With Trevor McDonald programme, the Government has admitted that 200,000 of Britain's social homes - five per cent of the total - were given to immigrants last year." If the Government wants to give 5% of social housing to immigrants at least they should be honest about it, although I suppose that is a bit much to hope for from this bunch of compulsive liars.
