And it is perfectly fine for the BBC to spend a fortune on presenters like Jeremy Paxman but not so good when it comes to Jeremy Clarkson because he's, well, the wrong type of presenter.

And it is perfectly fine for a footballer to be on £250,000 a week. That's good. That's working class.

Football is working class isn't it? I'm sure I read in the Guardian that it was.

In reality of course, mates of mine who grew up supporting their teams can hardly afford to attend nowadays as prices take the sport away from them.

But £250,000 a week is fine for Rooney. It's the right kind of wage unlike those evil bankers with their £1m wages and £250,000 a year bonuses. That's the wrong kind of pay.

And of course Microsoft is evil but Apple isn't. Starbucks is a tax-cheating filthy company until you need wi-fi and your double, skinny, mocha-peasant flat.

Now, hypocrisy isn't, unfortunately, the sole preserve of the left, but they just do a damn good job at it. Whether sending their kids to private school while condemning everyone else to the sink estate comp or flying to Tuscany as air-fares go up -- all to protect the planet you know -- the left see things in absolutes. '

Free speech - University of Derby style

From This Is Debyshire on 10 November 2012:

'THE University of Derby's Students' Union has banned one of the candidates vying to be voted in as the county's first Police and Crime Commissioner.

The organisation told David Gale yesterday morning that he would not be welcomed at a Q&A session for candidates, which took place at 2pm in the afternoon.

In a series of e-mails sent to Mr Gale by the union, he was told he would not be allowed to attend because it had "a no platform policy for UKIP", of which Mr Gale is a member.

The event saw the other three candidates, Rod Hutton, Simon Spencer and Alan Charles, discuss crime matters with students.

The students' union said it had originally invited Mr Gale to speak but he said he may not be able to attend due to other commitments.

Then, yesterday morning, he was sent a policy document which said: "The University of Derby Students' Union standing orders state clearly in that any member of the union may complain to the union president about an individual(s) who they believe to be a member of a group with racist, fascist or extremist views.

"We received several student complaints around UKIP policies on immigration that included repealing the 1998 Human Rights Act and withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.

"The decision was taken by the Students' Union executive to place UKIP on our no platform list in line with our values and legal documentation.

"We at the University of Derby Students' Union are proud supporters of No Platform and we uphold the rights of our students to feel safe while studying on campus.

"Part of this is us refusing to share a platform with groups holding extremist views."

Mr Gale did not want to comment directly about the matter but the decision brought wrath from the head of UKIP nationally.

Nigel Farage MEP said: "It is absurd that this student union feels it has the right to ban a serious national political party from its discussions.

"It is frightening that a Derby student body is so frightened of free speech and public opinion."

The public go to the polls on Thursday to vote in the county's first commissioner.

Whoever wins the race will replace the existing Police Authority and have the power to set the force budget.

Derek Clark, UKIP member of the European Parliament for Derbyshire, said: "I thought universities were supposed to welcome all points of view and support freedom and democracy? I would urge the students' union to look again at their policy as a matter of urgency."

A University of Derby Students' Union spokesman confirmed union officials had decided a platform could not be offered to a UKIP candidate because it was not felt that UKIP political views were in line with the union's values.

He added: "Having been made aware of Mr Gale's concerns regarding this policy, the UDSU will review its policies and procedures in this area, to further clarify its position."'

 The tolerance of the left never ceases to amaze me.  Likewise their absolute certainty that they are correct and any disagreement is wrong and should, if possible, be censored.

First the EDL, now UKIP. How long before right of centre Conservatives are also deemed to be out of 'line with the union's values'?

Guess which newspaper the BBC buys the most of?

Guess which newspaper the BBC buys the most of? Not that tricky is it, but here at The Commentator is the proof.

These numbers are all the more incredible (not surprising) when you realise how small The Guardian and Independent's circulations are in comparison to The Telegraph, Times and Mail. As The Commentator correctly points out:

'The Guardian has a circulation of 230,541 per day compared to the Daily Telegraph’s 634,113 and the Daily Mail with 1.7 million. Meanwhile, the Independent is lagging on a rather sorry-looking 90,001. If you’re too lazy to do the basic mathematics, allow us: that means that two of Britain’s most popular right of centre newspapers combined have a circulation of some 2.3 million compared to The Indie and The Guardian which weigh in at just over 320,000. Odd then, that despite besting their axis of left-wing rivals by seven times in the national market, the BBC procures almost 10,000 less copies of the Mail and Telegraph in the period displayed.'

If the BBC is not biased to the left then why does it buy left of centre papers in numbers that are out of all proportion to the rest of the country? Similarly, does the BBC's position in opposition to Israel have anything to do with its out of proportion purchasing of the two most anti-Israel broadsheet newspapers?

Sometimes the left's concept of 'facts' pisses me off

There is a twitter account @injusticefacts that is really pissing me off. I have submitted plenty of fact-checks to them but what really gets my goat (pun intended) is their endless attacks on the injustices perpetrated by Israel, the USA, UK and generally the democratic countries of the world, whilst ignoring the often greater injustices perpetrated by Socialist or Islamic countries.

Here's a recent example, along with my response...

I may document more of these as the left wing bias of the misleadingly named Injustice facts deserves recognition.

Remind why Israel is called an 'Apartheid State'

The Times of Israel reports:

'JERUSALEM (JTA) — Jewish leaders in Hebron have called for international intervention to help the Palestinian man sentenced to death for selling a home near the Cave of the Patriarchs to Jews.

A letter on behalf of Muhammad Abu Shahala, a former intelligence agent for the Palestinian Authority, was signed by Hebron Jewish community leaders David Wilder and Noam Arnon, and addressed to, among others, the secretary-general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon; U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; the president of the European Council of the European Union, Herman Van Rompuy; and the director general of the International Red Cross, Yves Daccord, among others.

Shahala reportedly was sentenced to death for his part in selling what has become known as Beit Hamachpela (the Machpela House) to a group of Jews. He reportedly confessed to the sale after torture and was subject to a rushed trial, according to Arutz-7, which cited various news agencies. Palestinian officials said Shahala was not authorized to sell the home.

The death warrant still must be signed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, according to reports.

“It is appalling to think that property sales should be defined as a ‘capital crime’ punishable by death,” the Jewish leaders write in their letter. ” The very fact that such a ‘law’ exists within the framework of the PA legal system points to a barbaric and perverse type of justice, reminiscent of practices implemented during the dark ages.

“What would be the reaction to a law in the United States, England, France, or Switzerland, forbidding property sales to Jews? Actually, less than one hundred years ago, such acts were legislated and practiced, known as the infamous ‘Nuremberg laws.”...'

I await the shrieks of horror from the people who decry any act of Israel's that seems in any way questionable. I await the BBC coverage. I suspect that I will await both in vain.

The anti-Israel movement exposed for what they are by Pat Condell

As you may know I do not agree with Pat Condell on everything but when he comments on the left's insane hatred of Israel and uncritical support for the Palestinians he voices much of what I say, but with more pizazz.

The above  video should be required viewing for every MP, University Vice-Chancellor and Police Superintendent, unfortunately most of that ilk are so brainwashed that they would probably dismiss his views out of hand.

As a percentage of national output, public spending in the UK will fall by less than the average for the 17 Eurozone countries.

The news that the cuts are less harsh than those our neighbours are experiencing has fuelled criticism of the BBC, which has often been accused of exaggerating the extent of the cuts without explaining why they are necessary.'

'Refugees fleeing conflict in Libya are gathering in Calais in an attempt to enter Britain. '

That's the unsurprising news in The Telegraph. Now why would these people be so keen to come to the United Kingdom?

'“It is very difficult to get on the train, but I dream of England,” said Mohammed, who arrived in Calais on Tuesday after fleeing the war in Libya, where he was a migrant worker from Chad.

“Maybe I will hide, but I hope to find a way to get there somehow. England is a great country where I can have my human rights.”'

And, presumably, benefits.


4)

'A convicted terrorist banned from Britain for being a risk to national security has been stopped from being deported by the courts.'

Because a convicted terrorist's rights seem to trump those of innocent British people. The Telegraph has more, I doubt that the BBC has.


5) A cartoonist has discovered that lampooning George W. Bush was fine but lampooning Barack Obama is not so easy to sell:

'Ted Rall's cartoons and opinion pieces were all the rage when he was attacking George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and American soldiers.

But now that there's a man in the White House the press absolutely adore, the once syndicated polemicist claims he's having a hard time getting anyone to publish his work:

In the past, editorial rejections had numerous causes: low budgets, lack of space, an editor who simply preferred another creator's work over yours.

Now there' s a new cause for refusal: Too tough on the president.'

6) It seems that college students might be getting brighter in the USA:

'A recent informal survey of 500 post-grads primarily between the ages of 22 and 28 — 83 percent of whom voted for President Barack Obama in 2008 — found just 27 percent of Obama’s previous youth supporters plan to vote for him again, The Daily Caller reports. That’s a drop of almost 60 points.

In contrast, of those who voted for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2008, a vast majority — 80 percent — said they would vote GOP again. An 80 percent majority of those newly disillusioned by Obama said they would consider voting for a Republican in 2012, too.'

7) Before you visit the Maldives for your 'holiday in paradise' please read this:

'Keep in mind that the Maldives constitution does not permit citizenship to non-Muslims and a U.S.-based Muslim group gave Maldives FM the “Muslim Democrat of the Year” award in part for denying non-Muslims citizenship. Upon receiving the award, the FM stated:

I’m very happy to be named Muslim Democrat of the year.

For now I’m very happy to be in a 100 per cent Muslim country having achieved homegrown democracy.'

8) Next Big Future reports that:

'Harold Vinegar, the former chief scientists of Royal Dutch Shell, has devised an ambitious plan that would, if successful, turn Israel into one of the world’s leading oil producers. Now chief scientist for Israel Energy Initiatives (IEI), Vinegar maintains that the 238 sq km Shefela Basin holds the world’s second largest shale deposits outside the United States, from which around 250 billion barrels of oil – about the same as Saudi Arabia’s proven reserves, could be extractable. IEI estimates the marginal cost of production at between US$35 and US$40 per barrel. That, says Vinegar, would be cheaper than the US$60 or so per barrel it would cost to extract crude oil in more hospitable locations such as the Arctic, and even favourably with the US$30-US$40 in Brazilian deepwater. '

It always seemed a bit unfair that Israel had hardly any oil reserves when its neighbours dis. Of course Israel did have oil reserves whilst it had the Sinai peninsular but gave that back to Egypt in return for peace. I wonder how long before Egypt, Lebanon and the Palestinians claim the gas/oil is theirs?


9) The Mail seem shocked that female teachers are human beings outside of the classroom.

'Disgrace of the six drinking, pole-dancing primary school teachers who published the pictures on Facebook'

Seems like a complete non-story to me as the teachers were not in school, in loco parentis at the time or in any way linkable with the school at the time the photos were taken.

Contrasting what they say they think when they know they are being listened to and what they say when they think that they are in private

Greg Hengler at Townhall.com compiles the contrasting words given by former NPR CEO Vivian Schiller at her press conference on Monday and the words of former VP of Development Ron Schiller caught on hidden video by Project Veritas.

Something struck me near the end of that video. When the undercover reporter says "There's kind of a joke. We used to call it National Palestinian Radio", Mr Schiller laughs and nods approvingly but Betsy Liley (Senior Director Institutional Giving) says "Oh really? That's good! I like that!" Surely a representative of an unbiased news organisation would find that, if not offensive, then at least inappropriate. Has Betsy Liley been disciplined by NPR for her remarks and if not, why not?

Milo wrote this column after appearing on the 10 o'clock show, a Channel 4 show so left wing that I have managed to watch it just the once and can see no reason to raise my blood pressure again by watching another instalment of smug lefties joking with other smug lefties and 'humorously' insulting anyone who doesn't share their world view. Milo seems surprised at the Twitter responses he got to his appearance:

'A charity worker near where I live expressed her desire to, in her words, cut me up. One man recommended - in capital letters, just in case I thought he was joking - that I share my next bath with a toaster. (Stop laughing at the back!) A woman in Leicester went further, saying she wanted to kill me herself. The level of personal invective was staggering, and it left me... well, pretty depressed, if I'm honest. '

I am not at all surprised; the intolerance and hatred expressed by many on the left for anyone who dares to disagree with them and their set views is well-known. I have been the victim of quite a few nasty remarks when I dare to express my opinions in public, whilst I am required to sit quietly whilst friends express the most ridiculous lefty views.

Milo continues:

The attitude of, often, pure hatred towards Margaret Thatcher amazes me. The left have no problem idolising Che Guevara, a man who killed or ordered the killing of thousands of Cubans, and praising Fidel Castro who has been responsible for the deaths of ten of thousands, but Margaret Thatcher is 'that evil woman'!

The BBC never letting go

When Donald Rumsfeld made 'that' speech in 2006 which included the passage

'There are known knowns; these are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns; that is to say, there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns; there are things we do not know we don't know.'

The left had hysterics, 'this man is an idiot they screamed', 'what gibberish he talks'.

Of course what Donald Rumsfeld was saying was not gibberish but good sense; I presume the speech-writer thought it was some clever wordplay. Donald Rumsfeld was explaining that there are things we know, things we know exist but do not know all about and things about which we have no idea.

The left-wing media has no interest in facts just in making fun of politicians with whom they disagree, so to this day any opportunity to make fun of Donald Rumsfeld. In this week's Weekly World Quiz the BBC include this question:

'Excerpts from the autobiography of ex-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld have been leaked. In it, he admits having chosen some words badly. Which of the following is NOT by Mr Rumsfeld?

How to explain the relentless lying of left-wing politicians and much of the media

In case you did not realise the quotation is taken from chapter 10 of James Murphy's translation of Adolph Hitler's Mein Kampf.

When the 'right' are always wrong

The shooting of Gabrielle Gifford has once again brought the double standards of the left-wing press and politicians into focus. The denunciations of the 'right's violent imagery' has been a theme of the past few days, whether it be the San Francisco Chronicle in the US or the BBC in the UK.

The San Francisco Chronicle lists many examples of violent imagery relating to Democrat politicians as expressed by right-wing politicians, broadcasters and businessmen. The BBC have been publishing similar examples as used by American politicians. What the left-wing media will not admit is that the left have been as, if not more, guilty than the right in recent years. Neither have reproduced any examples Barack Obama's hateful comments as reported by The American Patriots Commission:

'** Obama: “They Bring a Knife…We Bring a Gun”
** Obama to His Followers: “Get in Their Faces!”
** Obama on ACORN Mobs: “I don’t want to quell anger. I think people are right to be angry! I’m angry!”
** Obama to His Mercenary Army: “Hit Back Twice As Hard”
** Obama on the private sector: “We talk to these folks… so I know whose ass to kick.“
** Obama to voters: Republican victory would mean “hand to hand combat”
** Obama to lib supporters: “It’s time to Fight for it.”
** Obama to Latino supporters: “Punish your enemies.”
** Obama to democrats: “I’m itching for a fight.”'

Nor have the left-wing media drawn any comparisons with the hatred expressed by so many of the left in recent years as they wished Dick Cheney would have more heart attacks, and some expressed the desire that Karl Rove be shot.

The way that the left-wing media jumped on this shooting as being something that the right were to blame for was quite disgusting and the eagerness worrying for anyone that believes in an impartial news service. So far as I can see there is nothing to link Jared Lee Loughner to the Tea Party, let alone the Republicans, he seems to have been a registered political independent who did not even vote in the recent elections that the Tea Party/Republicans so dominated.

The left-wing media have used this shooting as a way of attacking Sarah Palin, something that the left seem unable to tire of. However I don't see the connection, beyond Sarah Palin being a keen hunter and being fond of her guns. Jared Lee Loughner was not an evangelical Christian but a very outspoken atheist. So far as I am aware none of his online rants have ever mentioned Sarah Palin.

In fact there are many more links between Jared Lee Loughner and Gabrielle Gifford. It seems that his grudge against her dates back to a public meeting in 2007 when he posed a question regarding his grammar as mind-control theories only for Gabrielle Gifford to treat the theory as a joke. The other link is even more fascinating; I have read in various places including A Tangled Web that:

'“On YouTube Gabrielle Gifford has a channel called “Gifford2″ . If you scroll down to the two people, of the channels that Gifford herself “subscribes” to, you’ll see that they number only two. One is a fellow congressman, and the other is named “Classitup10′s Channel” and is owned by non other than “Jared Lee Loughner”, the bloke who allegedly shot her.'

 Now that  would seem to be an interesting connection, if true but I have yet to see the BBC report it, preferring instead to throw mud at Sarah Palin and the Republicans. Likewise I have read claims that Loughner campaigned FOR Gifford in 2007, but why would that interest the BBC who have a 'narrative' to spread?

Take a read of Wikipedia's article on the Community Reinvestment Act and ask yourself if the section headed 'Controversies and criticisms' seems fair and balanced or somewhat skewed towards defending the controversial Act?

Paying the Unions to trash the country (update)

Back in September I blogged about

'the Union Modernisation Fund, which lives on despite its growing notoriety... uncovered 2,493 full time Union employees who are paid for by public sector bodies at a cost of £67.5 million a year.'

So I was interested to read today in The Telegraph that:

'Some unions have been caught out telling their members to lie to their employers so they can attend anti-cuts demonstrations during office hours'

Apparently:

'An undercover investigation by Priti Patel, Conservative MP for Witham, found that officials at unions were telling members how to campaign against the Government's cuts programme on the taxpayers’ time.

...

Ms Patel set up a bogus email account and contacted the officials, asking whether it was possible to attend demonstrations on “facility time" to carry out their union duties during office hours.

One official said she could be “economical with the truth about your use of the time you may be able to claim facilities time” while another suggested she could “pop it down as a union meeting and be creative about how you spend your union time”. '

Why do we allow the Trade Unions to get away with such practices? Why do we let the 'left' walk over us? And of course why are the BBC so singularly uninterested in reporting this story?

So I was interested to read that:

'The Justice Department is ignoring civil rights cases that involve white victims and wrongly abandoned a voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party last year, a top department official testified Friday. He called the department's conduct a "travesty of justice."

Christopher Coates, former voting chief for the department's Civil Rights Division, spoke under oath Friday morning before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, in a long-awaited appearance that had been stonewalled by the Justice Department for nearly a year.

Coates discussed in depth the DOJ's decision to dismiss intimidation charges against New Black Panther members who were videotaped outside a Philadelphia polling place in 2008 dressed in military-style uniforms -- one was brandishing a nightstick -- and allegedly hurling racial slurs.

The case has drifted in and out of the limelight over the past year as the commission has struggled to investigate it. Former Justice official J. Christian Adams fueled the controversy when he testified in July and accused his former employer of showing "hostility" toward cases that involved white victims and black defendants.

Nearly three months later, Coates backed up Adams' claims. In lengthy and detailed testimony, he said the department cultivates a "hostile atmosphere" against "race-neutral enforcement" of the Voting Rights Act.

He said civil rights attorneys stick to cases that involve minority victims, and he said the Black Panther case was dismissed following "pressure" by the NAACP and "anger" at the case within the Justice Department itself.

"That anger was the result of their deep-seated opposition to the equal enforcement of the Voting Rights Act against racial minorities and for the protection of white voters who have been discriminated against," he said.

He said a 2005 case against a black official in Mississippi over voter intimidation claims had stirred a backlash in the department and from civil rights groups -- and that the New Black Panther case was no different.

The Department of Justice dismissed the testimony, calling the investigation "thin on facts and evidence and thick on rhetoric."

"The department makes enforcement decisions based on the merits, not the race, gender or ethnicity of any party involved," department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler said. "We are committed to comprehensive and vigorous enforcement of the federal laws that prohibit voter intimidation."

The Bush Justice Department first brought the case against three members of the Black Panther group, accusing them in a civil complaint of violating the Voting Rights Act. The Obama administration initially pursued the case and at one point won a default judgment, but the administration last year moved to dismiss the charges after getting one of the New Black Panther members to agree not to carry a "deadly weapon" near a polling place until 2012.

Coates rejected as weak the department's rationale for abandoning the case, saying the department let one of the Black Panther members off the hook because a local police officer had determined he was a Democratic Party poll watcher. Coates called it "extraordinarily strange" for the department to rely on this and urged the commission to consider what the legal backlash would have been if the Panthers had been members of the Ku Klux Klan.

"To understand the rationale of these articulated reasons for gutting this case ... one only has to state the facts in the racial reverse," he said. Coates said that with the United States becoming increasingly diverse, it is "absolutely essential" that the law be enforced equally.

"As important as the mandate in the Voting Rights Act is to protect minority voters, white voters also have an interest in being able to go to the polls without having race-haters such as Black Panther King Samir Shabazz, whose public rhetoric includes such statements as 'kill cracker babies' ... standing at the entrance of the polling place with a billy club in his hand hurling racial slurs at voters," he said.

"Given this outrageous conduct, it was a travesty of justice for the Department of Justice not to allow attorneys in the voting section to obtain nationwide injunctive relief against" the defendants, he said.

Since last year, Coates has been transferred to the U.S. attorney's office in South Carolina. He said Friday that the Justice Department told him not to testify before the commission after he was first subpoenaed in December 2009; in testifying Friday, he claimed protection from retaliation under "whistleblower" laws.

Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., also wrote a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder warning the Justice Department not to punish Coates in any way for testifying. '

It looks like the majority of the US media is just as biased towards the left as the BBC in the UK. A 'narrative' is created and followed come what may... Actually watching the video it strikes me that the BBC is relatively restrained when compared with the US.

The BBC are off to an early start, their hom epage and their news home page show ed Miliband looking powerful and in control and the headline is almost beyond belief: 'Miliband 'to defend middle class'. Yes the man who was part of the Labour government that squeezed the British middle class like no other but used an engineered house price boom to make them feel richer, is now claiming to be their champion. The BBC are so desperate for a Labour govenmnet that they would report adoringly on any new labour leader, but for one who claims to be left-wing they will move mountains; expect the BBC to ramp up the pro-Labour bias. This morning watch to see how easy a ride Andrew Marr gives Ed Miliband...
