The most deluded comment of the year?

Someone explain that at the time of both world wars there was no supranational body in Europe so these were not 'civil wars'. Also that the EU is not a country yet and whilst I have breath left in me,I will fight to ensure that the UK will not be a member of an EU superstar.

The Telegraph reports that the never elected Baroness Ashton 'has failed to fully attend two thirds of European Commission meetings over the past year, leaving Britain without a voice in the most important forum for EU law making'

It seems that:

'Officials and diplomats have questioned her commitment to the job, which has a salary of more than £230,000 a year, and especially her reluctance to be away from her London-based family at weekends.

Lady Ashton has also been absent from 40 per cent of 42 meetings of the commission "college" in the past year, gatherings at which the EU's 27 commissioners – one for each member state – take critical legislative decisions on issues such as European regulation of the City of London.

n an additional 26 per cent of meetings, Lady Ashton left proceedings early, although, her aides insist that, in most cases she was there for the "meat" of the agenda. Her attendance record is the worst of the EU's 27 commissioners.

Her record, described by one senior Italian politician as "amazingly" poor, has led to renewed criticism of her suitability for the senior post and her reluctance to move to Brussels full-time combined with an unwillingness to travel or work abroad at weekends. '

People seem surprised that someone working for the EU might be less than totally diligent, why? As I have blogged over and over again once a politician works fir the EU they owe allegiance to the EU not their country of origin. Baroness Ashton is not a European Commissioner to represent the UK's interests to them, she's there to represent the EU to us.

It might also be more than a coincidence that the last two senior EU appointments have been of weak non-entities: Ashton and Herman van Rompuy, who do not have the skills to manage the forces that really control the EU.

The return of the PIIGS

I see that Portugal has become the third of the PIIGS to have to answer embarrassing questions about the possibility of requiring an EU bailout. That's Greece, Ireland and Portugal; so just Italy and Spain left before we have five of a kind.

Herman van Rompuy says that this risks destroying the EU; we can but hope...

'Recent media reports citing information from China's electricity authority claimed that 64.5 million urban electricity meters registered zero electricity consumption over the past six months, equating to enough empty flats to house 200 million people.'

2. This is Money reports

'The European Parliament has launched a controversial new power grab, demanding the right to make tax raids on Britain. 

MEPs said they would approve a 2.9% rise in the Brussels budget – demanded by David Cameron rather than the 6% originally proposed – but only if they get powers to raise taxes.'

3. Archbishop Cranmer reports and analyses the EU's latest power grab as EU President Herman Van Rompuy informs us that

The Bilderberg Group 2010 meeting in Sitges, Spain

The Bilderberg Group fascinates me, part of me thinks it is probably just innocent politicians, business leaders and others meeting to discuss various matters of interst but another part of me thinks there must be more to it than that and anything that involves Peter Mandelson must be suspicious! Faustie's Blog has some interesting reportage on the recent Bilderberg meeting at Sitges. Here's some video from that blog...

'Dr John Coleman (author, constitutional lawyer, historian, and Middle East specialist) talks to Alex Jones about the Bilderberg Group and Club of Rome (Committee of 300), which runs the world. This club comprises the world's richest 300 families.'

As Fuasty wrote: 'Maybe EU states will take van Rompuy’s debut “first year of Global Governance” speech seriously, now that they know he’s a member of a secret and subversive group, whose goal is to create a one world system of control under corporate interests.'

Of course

'Those who run Bilderberg's annual four-day meetings, and some of the people who have been to them, insist that there is nothing sinister going on. The official line is that the meetings are no more than useful forums, talking shops for prominent people from various influential spheres (politics, business, royalty ... ) to chew the fat about big issues. 'Ordinary people were misled over impact of the euro'

That's the headline of this Telegraph piece about the recent words of Herman Van Rompuy . Apparently:

'Europe's "man in the street" was misled for years over the vast political and economic implications of the creation of "Euroland", Herman Van Rompuy has admitted.

The EU's president told a selected audience of civil servants and businessmen that the Greek debt crisis and euro zone bailout had come as a nasty shock to ordinary Europeans.

He said the public was not made aware of the full social and economic implications of the currency before it was created.

"Nobody ever told the proverbial man in the street that sharing a single currency was not just about making peoples' lives easier when doing business or travelling abroad, but also about being directly affected by economic developments in the neighbouring countries," he said on Tuesday evening. "Being in the 'Euro zone' means, monetarily speaking, being part of one 'Euroland'."'

The EU wants more money and more power and it will get both

Two reports catch my eye this morning:

1) The Telegraph report that:

'Figures contained in Treasury documents published alongside the Budget show Britain is projected to hand over £6.4billion this year, and £7.6billion in 2010/11.

This compares with projections previously disclosed in last year's Budget of £5.6billion for 2009/10 and £7.9billion for 2010/11.

Over the two years the UK will have given £500million more than previously thought to Brussels.

The figure for 2009/10 - £6.4bilion - is more than twice the £3.1billion handed over in 2008/09.

The increase is due to a reduction in Britain's annual rebate first negotiated by Margaret Thatcher in 1984 to balance out a smaller benefit from EU farming payments.

In 2005, Tony Blair agreed, with Gordon Brown's backing, to staged cuts in the rebate for a promise of a review of EU subisidies. He was criticised for failing to extract any concessions. '

Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have sold this country out to the EU in return for nothing for the UK, but plenty for their friends and colleagues.


2) The Telegraph reports that:

'Germany and France have tabled controversial plans to create an "economic government of the European Union" to police financial policy across the continent.

They have put Herman Van Rompuy, the EU President, in charge of a special task force to examine "all options possible" to prevent another crisis like the one caused by the Greek meltdown.

His mission will be to draw up a master-plan for the best way to oversee and enforce economic targets set in Brussels as a key part of a bail-out package for Greece.

The options he will consider include the creation of an "economic government" by the by the end of the year.

"We commit to promote a strong co-ordination of economic policies in Europe," said a draft text expected to be agreed by EU leaders last night.

"We consider that the European Council should become the economic government of the EU and we propose to increase its role in economic surveillance and the definition of the EU's growth strategy."

Gordon Brown was last night examining the wording of the statement to see whether it was restricted to eurozone members or has possible implications for British economic sovereignty.

Officials are concerned that the language calling for an "economic government" could be another attempt at a power-grab in the wake of the Lisbon Treaty.'

Every event is used by the EU to accrue more power and to centralise control. The EUSSR is nearing completion and David Cameron will not protect the UK from its clutches.

The seventy-third weekly "No shit, Sherlock" award

This week's award goes to the Diplomats of EU countries who The Telegraph report

"are increasingly worried that amid the turf wars there is a danger of Brussels "mission creep" as squabbling EU chiefs try to enlarge their empires at the expense of each other and national sovereignty. "

Apparently:

"Another diplomat expressed concern that amid the "biggest shift for 50 years", following the Lisbon Treaty, EU institutions were in danger of overstepping the mark.

"It is about getting the right balance between a collective EU voice and the member states. Whoever talks – Van Rompuy, Barroso or Ashton – they need to speak to a position agreed by the 27 member states," he said. "

The EU trying to take power for itself and reduce the role of member countries via "mission creep" - "No shit, Sherlock"

Beware the quiet ones - Herman Van Rompuy

I note that Herman Van Rompuy the EU's President is accused of making a powergrab over who is in charge of representing Europe on the global stage. Apparently Mr van Rompuy has been trying to accumulate more power than he is entitled to, what a shock.

The EU and taxation

Rumours abound that the quiet, unassuming Herman Van Rompuy, the first permanent president of the European Council, is not the nonentity that the MSM seem to be suggesting he is. Rather he has form as a proponent of EU taxation and it seems that this source of central EU revenue will come via a combination of CO2 taxation an a form of Tobin tax. Thus a trade body reliant on its members for its income becomes a state with its own independent sources of income. The EU project has always been about 'ever closer union and the implementation of the EU Constitution, albeit in the guise of the Lisbon Treaty, takes this project several large steps closer to fruition.

The time for European nation state is running out, all hail the EUSSR.

Is Turkish EU membership now dead in the water?

An interesting question posed by Michael Heaver on a UKIP supporting blog. Apparently the unelected EU President, Herman van Rompuy, has had this to say in the past about the prospects for Turkey's membership of the EU:

"Turkey is not a part of Europe and will never be part of Europe. An expansion of the EU to include Turkey cannot be considered as just another expansion as in the past".

"The universal values which are in force in Europe, and which are fundamental values of Christianity, will lose vigour with the entry of a large Islamic country such as Turkey."

Of course nobody should believe that just because Herman van Rompuy said this in the past that he meant it and/or will stick to this line in the future. There are people in the EU and elsewhere that will brook no opposition to their plans and the concerns of 'the people' are of no concern to them.
