Why do Police sometimes shoot unarmed citizens?

Many people doubt the logic behind Police training. I have attended many police funerals of those officers who were killed by suspects bringing a firearm out of a vehicle.'

Absolutely fascinating and the anti-police 'journalists' at the BBC should be made to watch it before they next opine about trigger-happy police.

How some police treat motorists

Two stories re how some police treat motorists have caught my eye recently.

The first is from the BBC and runs thus:

'Three police officers assaulted a motorist and his teenage passenger after stopping the driver for using a mobile phone, a court has heard.

Westminster Magistrates' Court was told the Scotland Yard officers left Lee Rosier, 24, and his 14-year-old passenger with cut lips and abrasions.

Mr Rosier was driving home from a classic car rally in west London when the officers allegedly attacked him.

PC Anthony Read, 35, PC Karl Bartlett, 42, and PC Colin Nye, 37, deny assault.

The court heard the officers pulled the Cosworth car over as it approached the A40 at Hanger Lane after Mr Rosier made a phone call while driving on 1 March 2011.

One of the officers from the Met's Territorial Support Group approached the car, opened the door and pulled Mr Rosier out before head-butting him, the jury was told.

Mr Rosier said: "He drags me out. It is lucky I had enough strength to put my feet on the floor or I would have fallen on my face."

In a statement to police at the time of the alleged incident he said he was then kneed in the back and forced down to the ground.

Mr Rosier's brother Billy told the court he was travelling behind in another car when the incident happened.

"I jumped out of the car. I saw what they were doing to my brother so I started running. They had his head in the kerb and they had him in handcuffs.

"It looked to me like they had their knees in his back."'

Yes using a mobile telephone (unless handsfree) is dangerous and illegal but does it warrant being attacked?


Driving whilst not wearing a seat belt is also illegal and dangerous to oneself if in an accident but does that excuse this behaviour from members of the South Wales police?

'Footage captured on a police dashboard camera shows one officer striking the driver's seat window with a baton up to 15 times and another officer jumping on the bonnet of the car and kicking the windscreen in an apparent attempt to crack it.

Police pulled over Robert Whatley, 70, for not wearing a seat belt as he drove through country lanes in South Wales. The 8-mile chase started after officers tried to give Mr Whatley a fixed penalty notice but he drove off.'

 Yes Mr Whatley should not have driven off but did he deserve the ferocity of that attack on his car?

To be fair to the police

I have been criticised for some of my comments about the police giving up during last week's riots and also for showing some videos of police brutality on the streets. As I have said before such brutality did not cause the riots, greed and a lack of respect for society or fear of the consequences were more important.

Here is a video I found on YouTube that shows some of what was happening on one night last week and I find it upsetting but not surprising that so many of 'da yout' are so willing to destroy, rob and burn property.

Please bear in mind that now the genie is out of the bottle and people know that for one night they can probably get away with this sort of action, they may be tempted to try it again... Who knows when they will try it but I am willing to bet more incidents before the end of the year? 

This is not how to engender respect for the Police

I have written many times about the lack of respect for the police and society in general. I have also posted occasional examples of how the police lose that respect, here's another of the latter type...

Was on the barking road recording the police searching a young black male and watch how they reacted and what they did to me and you wonder why the youth are rioting police need to protect us no man handle people like they are doing. Also to add I am not black I am quarter cast and this shows you don't need dark skin to be man handled... Now this is not why 'the youth' are rioting but behaviour by the police like this certainly doesn't help.

Is this what happens when you arem the police and have a shoot to kill policy?

Pajamas Media have the horrific story of the shooting of U.S. Marine veteran Jose Guereña, read it and worry...

'U.S. Marine veteran Jose Guereña, (was) killed when Dupnik’s deputies gunned him down in his home. They fired 71 shots. They hit him 60 times. And then, as if this wasn’t enough, Dupnik’s deputies blocked paramedics for an hour and 14 minutes from approaching the scene, denying Guereña treatment until he was assuredly dead.
Dupnik’s SWAT team initially claimed that Guereña fired at them while they were serving a warrant — as he slept. They claimed that his bullets hit the bulletproof shield that the entry team hid behind, and that the barrage of bullets they fired back was in self-defense.

Only, Guereña never fired his weapon. Awoken by his wife with screams that men with guns were invading his home and threatening his family, Jose Guereña armed himself with a AR-15 rifle and crouched in the hallway. The SWAT team unloaded upon Guereña on sight. He apparently recognized the home invaders as police. He took 60 rounds, but never — as the Pima County Sheriff’s Department was forced to admit — took off his weapon’s safety as he was being killed.'

Scary, very scary.

Land of the free?

This week's winner has to be the police for their report into the killing of Blair Peach in Southall in 1979. Apparently:

'A police officer is likely to have "struck the fatal blow" which killed a protester in west London 31 years ago, a Scotland Yard report reveals.'

Blair Peach killed by the police, "No shit, Sherlock".

More taser video from the UK

I opposed the introduction of tasers into the UK and this video is a good example of their apparent misuse. Do read The Telegraph article on this case. Do also note the way that one of the policemen shoves the bystander near the end of the video.

Photographing the Police

I have blogged many times about the way that this most vile Labour Government and its Police Force have tried (and often succeeded) in clamping down on photographers.

This article from June 2008 asks why all photographers are assumed to be terrorists or paedophiles, this article from August 2008 reported the case of a photographer arrested for taking photos of a police car ignoring a no entry sign and this piece also from August 2008 showed some video of a PCSO exceeding his powers. This piece from October 2008 asked if you needed a licence to take photos in Middlesborough, this piece from November 2008 reported the case of a 15 year old boy stooped for suspicion of being a terrorist because he was taking photos of trains and this article from January 2009 reported on several cases of photographers being badly dealt with by the police.

From January onwards I covered here, here, here and here the Government's introduction of legislation in the form of the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008, which became law on February 16, and which

"allows for the arrest and imprisonment of anyone who takes pictures of officers ‘likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism’." The punishment for this offense is imprisonment for up to ten years and a fine."

I was reminded of all of this as the Police have come under criticism for their possible part in death of Ian Tomlinson. I wonder if the man who took the video of the incident could find himself arrested for filming policemen... Maybe at the next demonstration the Police will first arrest all the photographers before dealing with protesters and passers-by.


As I quoted Daniel1979 in February:

"When I was at school, not too many years ago we were taught that cameras were forbidden in the Soviet Union and in East Germany. This, our liberal teacher told us was because cameras can be used to document offences of the state against civilians; as such, they were considered a tool that can bring about civil unrest and encourage protest against the Communist Governments. This particular teacher, sneered at this particular law and the system in which it helped preserve."

Police brutality?

At the beginning of the video you see the girl kick her shoe off, the officer, Deputy Paul Schene, claims this shoe struck him in the shin, injuring him. The word "diddums" comes to mind if a policeman is injured by a soft trainer kicked at him, I doubt there was even a bruise. Now note that the video came to light because the delightful Deputy Paul Schene accused the girl of third-degree assault, now the same officer is accused of fourth-degree assault and there is video proof - I wonder how he wriggle off the charge?
