The Grand Tour: The Trailer - Soon you'll be able to forget about the new Top Gear

Chris Evans - pah!
Matt Le Blanc - pah!
The real Top Gear guys are back - Clarkson, Hammond and May. Although what is that growth on Hammond's face?
The budget is bigger, the silliness quotient might be raised, but the fun will return too.
Top Gear, sorry The Grand Tour, hits our screens in just over a month, mid November...

BBC apologists

'Chris Evans has apologised for a Top Gear stunt which was filmed near a London war memorial over the weekend.

Fellow show host Matt LeBlanc and a professional driver performed "donuts" near to the Cenotaph on Whitehall.'

'A London war memorial'? Show some respect BBC, maybe if it had been near a mosque you'd be more outraged.

The new Top Gear line-up is too long

Six is just too many presenters, the old Top Gear managed with three. Maybe it's an admission that each of the new set is worth only half of a Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond or James May.
The new six are the very tiresome Chris Evans, the funny in Episodes and very personable Matt Le Blanc, the Formula 1 commentator and ex team boss Eddie Jordan, the German racing driver (and Queen of the Nurburgring) Sabine Schmidt, the motoring journalist Chris Harris and the TV presenter Rory Reid.

Too many by far. I predict at least two of these won't make it to the next series.

BBC fakery

I'm just watching an old Top Gear, it's what Dave HD was made for, and it's the one where Jeremy Clarkson drives a Peel P50 microcar.

Ostensibly he's travelling to work but in reality that car park that he starts off in is one of the car parks in the newer BBC compound off of the A40. So the route Jeremy takes, so far as we can see, is out of the BBC, then east along Holland Park Avenue before turning left out of Wood lane onto the A402 on Shepherds Bush and then and east along Holland Park Avenue before parking in front of the same (or one of the same) buildings he was originally parked underneath. Not only is the route shown impossible to do in that order, it is also completely unnecessary as Jeremy ends up less than 200 yards from where he started.

The BBC are shameless liars!

Top Gear do bicycle public information films

Jeremy Clarkson's work of genius - 'Work Harder. Get a Car.'

I can't find James May's  - 'Act Your Age. Get A Car' but it's also well worth a watch. Can anyone source it for me?

I also can't find the other two public information films, sheer genius. Watch last night's Top Gear for them all.

The perfect car for girls...or not!

The BMW Z1 is the perfect car for girls, according to Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson.

The one hundred and fifty ninth weekly No shit Sherlock award

'BBC motoring show Top Gear is embroiled in controversy over faked scenes after it emerged that actors had been hired to appear in a segment where a home-made hovercraft soaks diners at a riverside restaurant.'

A further thought on last night's Top Gear

The 'guest in a reasonably priced car' was Amber Heard; is she in any way related to Scarlett Johansson?

What do you think?

Are vibrating seats are a good thing?

Who is the Stig?

Apparently the white Stig is Ben Collins; the old black Stig was Perry McCarthy.

Is 'the Stig' actually David Cameron?

First DCI Gene Hunt and now The Stig; this David Cameron gets cooler by the day! The Telegraph have the details...

Top Gear trivia - the answer

In answer to yesterday's question:

The Ford Mondeo, Subarua Legacy and Renault Avantime; an eclectic selection but I do agree with the choice of the Mondeo as it is a good drive, in fact I think a better touring car than all but the fastest BMW 3-Series.

Top Gear trivia

In one Top Gear episode Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond & James May say that there are only three cars that they all like; what are they?

Tasteful?

"I wish he had died in that crash and that he had been decapitated and that his head had rolled off in front of his wife and that a jagged piece of metal debris from the car had got stuck in his eye and blinded him.

And then his head had rolled on a few more yards into a pool of boiling oil and that his head had retained just enough neural capacity for him to be able to think "ooh, this is bit hot" before the whole thing exploded into tiny pieces."

..."I wish Richard Hammond HAD died and I wish he had been decapitated. Of course, it’s a joke. But coincidentally it’s also what I believe."
That's comedian Stuart Lee on Richard Hammond, according to The Daily Mail. I wonder if Stuart Lee will apologise to Richard Hammond. Somehow I doubt it because lefty tossers like Stuart Lee, like to push the comedy envelope and no doubt see Top Gear presenters as fair game, they being completely not right-on. Apparently it was a joke; sounds rather more angry and personal to me.

The Guardian have a voting problem (update)

Further to this piece earlier in the week, The Guardian managed to avoid Top Gear winning their poll by The Wire getting even more multiple votes.
"Between the poll launching at about 4pm on Thursday 30 July and closing yesterday, it attracted just under 100,000 unique users, so in theory there should have been a similar number of votes cast.

As you can see from the final poll, there were slightly more than 100,000 votes cast – in total 2,316,575, by my calculation.

Two shows, The Wire and Top Gear, accounted for nearly 90% of the votes. The Wire (1,035,509/44.7%) finished ahead of Top Gear (1,001,096/43.3%) thanks to a late burst of sustained multiple voting between Tuesday and the poll closing at 2pm yesterday.

This after Top Gear had established a seemingly unassailable lead over the weekend with its own burst of multiple voting – by Monday the show had nearly 60% of the votes cast, with around 350,000.

QI (198,400/8.6%) ended up a distant third and the only other show to get more than 0.2% of the vote was The West Wing (33,860/1.5%)."
With multiple voting distorting the fair result, you can see why the Labour party are so keen on electronic voting.
