Do the Conservatives want to win the general election

It has been on my mind recently that this election might be one to lose as whoever wins it is going to have to take urgent and unpopular action very quickly if the UK is not to have its credit rating downgraded with all that that would entail for the economy.

"Boys From County Hell" made an excellent comment on Guido's blog today:
"I am starting to hope Labour wins the next election by the slimmest of margins and with no percentile vote difference to the Tories and with 50% of the electorate refusing to vote, I hope Griffin wins Barking and they get another seat up North just to see the panel on BBC election nights faces, I hope the Tories miss the marginals they need due to leaking votes to UKIP thanks to genuflecting to Brussels, and that the new Govt then only lasts 12 months of hell and economic/social collapse before another election is forced with a new Tory leader, only then will the people who have destroyed the country be forced to accept responsibility for their actions. Sometimes you need to burn the moor to ensure new growth."

That makes sense to me. Brown thinks he's lost I'm sure but wouldn't it be great if he was put back, with such a slim majority as made no difference, and made to start work on dragging us out of the mire? Of course that won't happen because he'll just dig us in deeper.
