'Gordon Brown wants aid to Africa to increasingly focus on wealth creation'

The BBC report that their lost love, Gordon Brown, has resurfaced from his slough of despond to opine that
'Gordon Brown has used his first major speech since leaving office to say the future growth of the world economy is reliant upon the development of Africa.

Speaking in Kampala, the Ugandan capital, the former UK prime minister said he wanted to see the continent achieve its full potential.'
I admire much of what some countries in Africa are trying to achieve but to say that 'the future growth of the world economy is reliant upon the development of Africa.' is just not true; India and China are the engines for future global growth, Africa at best will play a small part.

Getting rid of poverty in Africa would be a worthwhile moral crusade but transferring money from the poor of the West to the rich dictators and their cronies of Africa does not get rid of poverty.

Before I listen to Gordon Brown say he wants to create wealth in Africa I would rather hear him apologise for the mess he made of the UK economy, now drowning in debt.

I agree with you that giving more AID to Africa is simply taxing the poor of Europe to enrich the corrupt rich leader of Africa in some respects. I disagree with in terms of African growth. Africa has a great deal of resources and in fact part of China's growth has by due to their increased presence and involvement in Africa to collect these resources. There is still a huge question mark about India and if you followed the debates on these issues last week you may have heard that India has more poor people than some countries in sub-Saharan Africa such as the Democratic Republic of Congo. But India too is heavily involved in Africa and taking advantage of resources there as well as tariff free trade agreements with the USA (AGOA)

Finally I think Gordon Brown is job hunting in Africa but who will hire him is the million dollar question.

I blog at http://www.africaontheblog.com/ do stop by when you have a moment. Thank You
