“If we presented this before a judge [now]...he would renew this condition ... the solution is that no Jew should live there... The prosperity of this city [Jerusalem] and of this land necessitates that no Jew should ever live there.” [PA TV (Fatah), Dec. 14, 2004]

They do not have any moderates or any advocates of peace. They are all liars. They must be butchered and must be killed... The Jews are like a spring as long as you step on it with your foot it doesn’t move. But if you lift your foot from the spring, it hurts you and punishes you: “It is forbidden to have mercy in your hearts for the Jews in any place and in any land. Soon after this call to kill Jews, a teenager on PA TV expressed this desire to kill all Jews: “Kill them all... we won’t leave a single Jew here.” [Young Girl, PA TV (Fatah), Oct. 22, 2000]

Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi: “All the weapons must be aimed at the Jews, Allah’s enemies, the cursed nation in the Koran, whom Allah describes as monkeys and pigs, worshippers of the calf and idol worshippers: Nothing will deter them except the color of blood in their filthy nation : unless we blow ourselves up, willingly and as our duty, in their midst: We will blow them up in Hadera, we will blow them up in Tel-Aviv and in Netanya so that Allah will make us masters over this riff-raff. We will fight against them and rule over them until the Jew will hide behind the tree and rock and the tree and rock will say: ‘Muslim! This official PA line that God demands the killing of Jews was expressed in graphic form on the Hamas website promising entry to Heaven to those who follow God’s command. The words read: “We shall knock on heaven’s doors with the skulls of Jews.” Dr. Mahmoud Mustafa Najem: “Servants of Allah, be you the ones by whom Allah tortures the Jews with harsh torment.” [PA TV (Fatah), Nov. 1, 2002]

Muhammad Abd Al Hadi La’afi, Responsible for Religious Teaching and Instruction in the Office of the Waqf: “The battle with the Jews will surely come: The decisive Muslim victory is coming without a doubt, and the prophet spoke about in more than one Hadith, and the Day of Resurrection will not come without the victory of the believers [the Muslims] over the descendants of the monkeys and pigs [the Jews] and with their annihilation.” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida (Fatah), May 18, 2001]

It doesn't matter whether it is Hamas or Fatah, the aim is the same destroy Israel utterly, ensure there is no Jewish state in the Middle East and kill as many Jews as possible. Yet these are the people Israel are told to negotiate with as 'partners in peace'?

The BBC just won't report these regular statements from Hamas or Fatah that call for death for all Jews etc. but will report when one Israeli extremist makes threats against Arabs. I have complained about this to the BBC but their Middle East supremo, Tarik Kafala, seems uninterested in taking my complaints seriously.

Downing Street was infuriated when housing benefit claimant David Bennett challenged Iain Duncan Smith on the Today Programme to live on £53 a week, saying that Bennett was living on substantially more than that and that his claims should have been checked before being broadcast.

But Number 10 is now apoplectic after learning that Bennett was approached when he posted criticisms of David Cameron and the welfare changes on the BBC's user-generated content hub.

This has added to the Government's suspicions that the BBC was deliberately setting the Welfare Secretary up for a rough ride.'

'A poll of attitudes in Gaza and the West Bank by a Palestinian group found a sharp drop in support for rocket attacks on Israel and a slight rise in backing for the moderate Fatah political movement, in a report released Wednesday.

I wonder how The News Quiz will handle Lady Thatcher's death

I note that BBC Radio 4's The News Quiz returns for a new series on Friday, presumably they will be recording the show on Thursday night.

I wonder how the assorted lefty 'comedians' will respond. My prediction would be the very nasty and very left-wing Jeremy Hardy to be nastily sarcastic and vicious (in his faux sweet middle class voice) and Sandi Toskvig to have some nicely written barbs of her own against a woman who she could never dream of emulating.

I believe the other guests are Phill Jupitus, Daniel Finkelstein, and Roisin Conaty.

Phill 'Porky the poet' Jupitus is another resolute left winger, formerly a stalwart of Red Wedge, worked with Billy Bragg etc. etc. He's not usually as overtly left-wing but I am sure he won't be able to resist the temptation.

Roisin Conaty I do not know, but I'm sure she's hysterical. I wonder if she's not a left-winger how she'll respond to the nastiness.

Daniel Finkelstein is The News Quiz's token right of centre voice of reason. Even he is hardly right-wing; an ally of David Owen in the SDP and then a Conservative moderniser. I feel he'll be terribly outnumbered.

So that's two very left wing, one slightly more restrained left-wing, one mildly right of centre and another. Should be fun! Except I've sworn not to listen to The News Quiz, it was riling me too much and that much swearing is not appreciated by the neighbours.

I suppose I should just be grateful that the even more left-wing and nasty Mark Steel isn't on the show. He makes Jeremy Hardy seem reasonable, well sort of.

 

Once again I notice the difference between left and right

I inhabit a pretty civilised personal world but as ever I note that even here, the left and right deal with differences of opinion differently. In several meetings today I felt that some people wanted to talk about Lady Thatcher's death but felt inhibited because whilst they were obviously pro-Thatcher, they weren't sure about me. I am not how most of you imagine me to be, most people would assume that I am on the left, maybe the far left . 

I have noted previously how lefty types feel free to insult politicians on the right and how people on the right will just listen and accept their insulter's right to free speech. Whereas people on the right, being generally more polite, usually feel inhibited from expressing anti-lefty opinions in case they get verbally (or even physically) attacked by the usually less tolerant lefty.

Lots of generalisations in that piece but that, albeit anecdotally, is what I have discovered over recent years. Even amongst my friends, the lefty types will happily discuss politics and insult Conservative politicians and policies, whilst us right of centre types just have to keep quiet. It's trendy to be a lefty but not to be right of centre.

I will come, at my own expense, to debate Jimmy Carter on Carter's own human rights record. If Cardozo will have me, I will come and provide the students, the administration and anyone else that is interested, with a first rate debate about the meaning of human rights and they can decide whether what Jimmy Carter has done, constitutes human rights or human wrongs.

Alan Dershowitz, Felix Frankfurter professor of law at Harvard Law School, has challenged former president Jimmy Carter to a debate on his human rights record.

Dershowitz spoke by telephone to a reporter with The Jewish Press, on Monday, April 8, in response to the news that the Cardozo School of Law’s Journal of Conflict Resolution will be honoring Carter with the “International Advocate for Peace” Award this Wednesday, April 10, as reported that morning.

During the course of the interview, the law professor recounted the widespread death and devastation caused by Carter’s efforts at “human rights.”

“What should be discussed is not Jimmy Carter’s role as a peacemaker, but instead it should be his role as a deal breaker,” said Dershowitz.  He then proceeded to tick off the bases for his reasoning.

“First, it was Carter who advised Yassir Arafat not to accept the peace deal offered in 2000-01.  That failure led to the deaths of more than 4000 Israelis and Arabs.”

“Secondly, by encouraging and supporting Hamas, and always placing the blame on Israel, Carter has guaranteed the continuation of terrorism.”  Indeed, “Carter has embraced Arafat, he’s embraced Mashaal, why, he’s never met a terrorist he didn’t love, and never met an Israeli whom he did.”

“And third,” the professor said, “it was Carter who was responsible for not acting to prevent the death of two million Cambodians at the hands of Pol Pot.  Carter was the president of the United States and yet he did not intervene in that slaughter, he did not lead and prod the United Nations to take action.”

Dershowitz paused, to sum up, “Carter has prevented peace, encouraged terrorism and done more than anyone else to isolate and demonize the Middle East’s only democracy, Israel.”

But Dershowitz wasn’t finished.

“Jimmy Carter has distorted the very meaning of human rights, he has turned the concept on its head, what he does should be called ‘human lefts.’”

What does that mean?

“The way human rights should be addressed is based on ‘worst, first,’ you deal with the most egregious wrongs, the worst kind of abuses committed by governments first,” Dershowitz explained.  “He’s turned everything upside down.  Instead of Israel, just look over a little to the south, “Saudi Arabia is the worst human rights violator in the world: sex segregation, gender preference discrimination, religious discrimination,” that’s where a real human rights activist would focus, said the law professor.

“But Jimmy Carter was bought and paid for by the Saudis.  The Carter Center stopped criticizing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia when the Saudis started funding it.”

I'd love to see Jimmy Carter try and answer those points but it will never happen. He's a coward as well as a nasty piece of work.

If I hear one more ex-miner celebrating the death of Lady Thatcher I might just scream. The BBC have given airtime to numerous such people, people who just realise one key fact.

There were more pit closures under Harold Wilson's Labour government than under Lady Thatcher's Conservative government: 406 pits closed in the 1960s (with 315,000 job losses), only 146 closed in the 1980s (with 173,000 jobs losses).

I wonder why the BBC never point that out? Would it spoil their carefully constructed narrative?

Because no she didn't, what she actually said was this:

I didn't agree with everything Lady Thatcher did BUT bearing in mind the state of the nation in 1979 there really was no alternative, she was a necessary, sometimes unpleasant, medicine for the Country. At the end of her tenure as Prime Minister the country was no longer the sick man of Europe and was considerable better off. Without her governance I wonder how the UK would have looked in 1990.

Rock-throwers caused the crash which killed Asher Hillel Palmer and his one-year-old son. Last December a rock struck a 12-year-old girl, breaking her skull and on March 14, 2013, a three-year-old girl was in critical condition and her mother and two sisters seriously wounded after a car accident caused by rocks thrown by Palestinians. The three-year-old was not breathing when medics arrived at the scene. Before the accident, a number of drivers reported rock attacks. A bus was hit with rocks and a man and a 10-year-old boy also were injured by rocks in the same area.'

Baroness Thatcher one of the great British Prime Ministers has died and I am waiting for the British left to rise to the occasion. Before long the nasty face of the British left will be much in evidence. In the meantime I am going to monitor the BBC. At the moment their lead article runs thus:

Baroness Thatcher, born Margaret Roberts, became the Conservative MP for Finchley, north London in 1959, retiring from the Commons in 1992. Having been education secretary, she successfully challenged former prime minister Edward Heath for her party's leadership in 1975. She won general elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987. Baroness Thatcher's government privatised several state-owned industries. She was also in power when the UK went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands in 1982.'

Such small accomplishments: privatised several state-owned industries and was in power when the UK went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands. How about rescued the UK economy from the despair of the Wilson/Callaghan Labour governments? How about turned the UK from 'the sick man of Europe' into one of the world's leading powers? How about went to the defence of the Falklands despite the opposition of the Labour party?

I suppose that a news organisation that the BBC's Jane Garvey recalled celebrated the 1997 Labour victory:

“I do remember… the corridors of Broadcasting House were strewn with empty champagne bottles. I’ll always remember that”

The whole advertising campaign capitalizes upon public distrust of the banking system and the financial anxieties of Spaniards.

"You see, we've got big economic problems in Spain, and people have really lost confidence in the banks," the creator of the peculiar mattress, Paco Santos, told NPR’s blog.

So the campaign emphasizes all the conveniences of having a built-in safe in your mattress.

“Your money is always available anytime that you are at home,” the company website reads, adding that “you can enjoy your money for as long as you want and without risks.”'

Safer than a bank but still fairly easy to steal a whole matress!

'Britain's police chiefs are drawing up draconian rules under which the identities of people they arrest will be kept secret from the public.

The move, which follows a recommendation by Lord Justice Leveson in his report into press standards, has been branded an attack on open justice and has led to comparisons with police states such as North Korea and Zimbabwe.

Under current arrangements, police release basic details of a person arrested and in many cases will confirm a name to journalists. But the practice varies from force to force.

Under the new guidance, to be circulated by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), forces will be banned from confirming the names of suspects, even when journalists know the identity of someone who has been arrested.

Without official police confirmation, the legal risks of incorrect identification will prevent the media from publishing the names of suspects.'

Were the banks to blame or was it someone else?

The accepted narrative is that the US property collapse was the fault of evil and/or stupid banks. The truth is somewhat at variance to this and I have blogged about the Community Reinvestment Act before. However I have also just found this 1999 New York Times article from before the problems hit, lauding the Clinton administration's project - (my emphasis):

'In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is easing the credit requirements on loans that it will purchase from banks and other lenders.

The action, which will begin as a pilot program involving 24 banks in 15 markets -- including the New York metropolitan region -- will encourage those banks to extend home mortgages to individuals whose credit is generally not good enough to qualify for conventional loans. Fannie Mae officials say they hope to make it a nationwide program by next spring.

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, has been under increasing pressure from the Clinton Administration to expand mortgage loans among low and moderate income people and felt pressure from stock holders to maintain its phenomenal growth in profits.

Demographic information on these borrowers is sketchy. But at least one study indicates that 18 percent of the loans in the subprime market went to black borrowers, compared to 5 per cent of loans in the conventional loan market.

In moving, even tentatively, into this new area of lending, Fannie Mae is taking on significantly more risk, which may not pose any difficulties during flush economic times. But the government-subsidized corporation may run into trouble in an economic downturn, prompting a government rescue similar to that of the savings and loan industry in the 1980's.

''From the perspective of many people, including me, this is another thrift industry growing up around us,'' said Peter Wallison a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. ''If they fail, the government will have to step up and bail them out the way it stepped up and bailed out the thrift industry.''

Under Fannie Mae's pilot program, consumers who qualify can secure a mortgage with an interest rate one percentage point above that of a conventional, 30-year fixed rate mortgage of less than $240,000 -- a rate that currently averages about 7.76 per cent. If the borrower makes his or her monthly payments on time for two years, the one percentage point premium is dropped.

Fannie Mae, the nation's biggest underwriter of home mortgages, does not lend money directly to consumers. Instead, it purchases loans that banks make on what is called the secondary market. By expanding the type of loans that it will buy, Fannie Mae is hoping to spur banks to make more loans to people with less-than-stellar credit ratings.

Fannie Mae officials stress that the new mortgages will be extended to all potential borrowers who can qualify for a mortgage. But they add that the move is intended in part to increase the number of minority and low income home owners who tend to have worse credit ratings than non-Hispanic whites.

Home ownership has, in fact, exploded among minorities during the economic boom of the 1990's. The number of mortgages extended to Hispanic applicants jumped by 87.2 per cent from 1993 to 1998, according to Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies. During that same period the number of African Americans who got mortgages to buy a home increased by 71.9 per cent and the number of Asian Americans by 46.3 per cent.

In contrast, the number of non-Hispanic whites who received loans for homes increased by 31.2 per cent.

Despite these gains, home ownership rates for minorities continue to lag behind non-Hispanic whites, in part because blacks and Hispanics in particular tend to have on average worse credit ratings.

In July, the Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed that by the year 2001, 50 percent of Fannie Mae's and Freddie Mac's portfolio be made up of loans to low and moderate-income borrowers. Last year, 44 percent of the loans Fannie Mae purchased were from these groups.'

Remember the Community Reinvestment Act and who proposed & passed it and why, the next time you hear the BBC or other left-wing media's version of history. Remember that these media organisations are not unbiased, they have a 'narrative' to push and an agenda to advance.

BBC Gaza reporting ‘misleads’ | The Jewish Chronicle

The BBC's reported the latest rocket attacks by Hamas terrorists on Israel, as I had predicted, only after Israel responded.

The BBC's explanation for headlining the story with the Israeli response rather than the original Hamas attack was this:

'A spokesperson said: "The original story led with Israel's air strike on Gaza because this was a new development and the first time Israel had launched an airstrike of this kind since November. The article fully explained that the strike followed a Palestinian rocket attack on the previous day. As is usual, the story has since been updated with further developments and reaction." '

What is not explained by the BBC, is why the BBC didn't report the Hamas rocket attacks until after Israel retaliated. I can help them out; it's because the BBC is institutionally biased against Israel.

In which the BBC ignores prejudice in Israeli football

'Readers will surely not have forgotten the bout of BBC binge-reporting a couple of months ago on the subject of a group of racist fans of the Beitar Jerusalem football club. At the time, no fewer than four reports on the same subject appeared on the BBC News website in less than a week.

A 'fundamentalist interpretation of Islamic law'?

The BBC report on what they call a 'fundamentalist interpretation of Islamic law'. Apparently:

'The UK has urged Saudi Arabia not to carry out a reported sentencing of paralysis for a Saudi man as punishment for paralysing another man.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said London was "deeply concerned" by the sentence, describing it as "grotesque".

Such punishment was "prohibited under international law", the official added.

Saudi media reports earlier said the 24-year-old man could be paralysed from the waist down if he could not pay his victim £250,000 in compensation.

Ali al-Khawahir was 14 when he stabbed a friend in the back in the Eastern Province town of al-Ahsa. He has been in prison for 10 years.

The judge in the case has reportedly interpreted the Islamic law of qisas, or retribution, that Saudi Arabia follows as meaning that he in turn could face being paralysed.

Amnesty International has described this as tantamount to torture.

The sentencing is the latest example of Saudi Arabia's fundamentalist interpretation of Islamic law attracting international criticism.'

Odd how many Muslim countries share this 'fundamentalist interpretation of Islamic law', isn't it?

 

Some anti-monarchists need educating

The BBC and various anti-monarchist groups like to misrepresent the cost of the UK monarchy and this annoys me. This piece repeated the familiar misrepresentation that:

'The total cost of keeping the monarchy was £38.2m during the 2009-10 financial year, a drop of 7.9% (£3.3m) on the previous year.'

This looks at just one side of the equation: the costs of the Civil List which is soon to be replaced by the awfully named "sovereign support grant". The other side that is as usual ignored is that in 1760 it was decided that the entire cost of the Civil List should be paid by Parliament in return for the monarch surrendering his hereditary revenues from the Crown Estate to Parliament for the duration of George III's reign. This agreement with some alterations is still in place today.

So how much is the The Crown Estate worth to the UK taxpayer? The last figures I saw was around £190 million a year.

So why does the BBC insist on repeating the cost of the Royal Family <£40 million a year but ignores the income forgone by them in return for the civil list of around £190 million?

Define 'illegal'

'Associated Press, one of the largest news agencies in the world, will no longer use the term “illegal immigrant” to describe those who migrate to a country in violation of their immigration laws, their Executive Vice President announced on Tuesday.

Their style guide will no longer permit the term ‘illegal immigrant’ or the use of ‘illegal’ to describe a person.  It will now only use of the word “illegal” to describe an action, such as “living in or migrating to a country illegally”.

It is believed that most of the 1400 U.S. newspapers which use AP will likely follow their decision on the use of such a loaded term and will, for instance, stop referring to the millions of unauthorized Latino migrants to the US as “illegal”.   
ABC reported the following:

…most of America’s top college newspapersand major TV networks, including ABC, NBC and CNN, have vowed to stop using the term. Nearly half of Latino voters polled last year in a Fox News Latino survey said that they find the term “illegal immigrant” offensive. A coalition of linguists also came together last year to pressure media companies to drop “illegal immigrant,” calling it “neither neutral nor accurate.”

Whilst many Americans are applauding the decision by AP as a victory for accuracy and diversity, we can only wonder whether serious news organizations – and the Guardian – will similarly drop the loaded and value-laden term “illegal settler” to characterize Jews who, consistent with the parameters of the Mandate for Palestine, live beyond the 1949 armistice lines (in Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem).'

Do teachers work too hard?

'TEACHERS were accused of wanting an "easy life" last night after calling for no more than 20 hours a week in the classroom. Delegates at the National Union of Teachers' conference, said some members were left with little time to eat, talk, think or even go to the toilet.  Christopher Denson told the conference that many teachers were saying their workload was now "totally unsustainable".
I would like to ask local teachers for their opinion on this issue but they currently are on their Easter break, following their mid-term break, following their two week Christmas break…'

Hmm, 'This group is exclusive and very hard to join, most come from very privileged backgrounds'. Neither Mrs NotaSheep nor I came from privileged, let alone very privileged, backgrounds but we seem to be in this Elite group. My parents scrimped and saved to send me to a good school, likewise Mrs Notasheep's parents for her. Neither of us went to elite universities (a term undefined).

As predicted the BBC now feel able to report

Over the last few days Hamas terrorists fired some rockets into Israel. There was no discernible BBC coverage of this news. Israel responded by attacking terrorist targets in Gaza and, as I predicted, the BBC managed to report the news.

Here's the headline: 'Israel launches first air strike on Gaza since truce' and here's the first two paragraphs:

'Israel has carried out an air strike on the Gaza Strip for the first time since an eight-day war ended in a truce last November.

Hamas, the Islamist group that runs Gaza, says aircraft bombed fields near the border and no-one was injured.'

'The air strike followed a Palestinian rocket attack on Israel on Tuesday which also caused no injuries.

Israel and Hamas have been observing an Egyptian-mediated truce after last November's fighting.

The Israeli military confirmed the air strikes, saying it had targeted "terror sites" and was "in response to rocket fire".

Israeli newspaper Haaretz said the air strike was near the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya and came after militants in Gaza fired two mortar shells into the western Negev desert.

Since the truce came into effect, Israel has eased restrictions on allowing building materials into the Gaza Strip, imposed when Hamas came to power there in 2007.'

The BBC, nothing if not predictably anti-Israel.

Israel Matzav: Rockets here, rockets there, rockets, rockets everywhere

Here's some news that you won't find on the institutionally anti Israel BBC.

'Earlier on Tuesday, two rockets were shot at Israel by terrorists in Gaza. One landed in the Eshkol region, while the other has not yet been found, but apparently landed in Gaza. This evening, a rocket was shot into Tel Fares in the Golan Heights. '

A406 London - A406 North Circular Road in West London closed, severe delays and queueing traffic southbound between Park Royal and Hanger Lane Gyratory, because of a serious accident involving at least two lorries. Congestion to Henly's Corner and to Chiswick Roundabout.

The accident that closed the M25 happened at 12:30 today; nearly seven hours later, it's still closed. 

The accident that closed the A406 happened at lunchtime; some six hours or so later it's still closed.

I know accidents need investigating and that the injured and their vehicles need clearing from the scene. BUT surely the needs of the thousands of drivers unable to travel where they need to go, or at least delayed for hours, as traffic snarls up around the scene of the accident and in surrounding roads should be taken into account.

After all the A406 incident resulted in about 50m of the central barrier being damaged, three men being injured and taken to hospital - one man was taken as a priority to St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with neck pain, the other two were treated for shoulder pain at North Middlesex Hospital. Hardly carnage was it.

The M25 incident was more serious as three heavy goods vehicles and five cars were involved in the crash.Essex Fire Service had to cut three people free who were trapped in their vehicles. Two people were airlifted to Royal London Hospital via helicopter and are said to be in a serious condition.
Two adults and a child were taken to Basildon hospital but their injuries are not described as life threatening.

Hamas law promotes gender segregation in Gaza schools

Some news that you won't find reported on the BBC.

'GAZA (Reuters) - New rules from the Education Ministry of the Islamist Hamas movement ruling the Gaza Strip will bar men from teaching at girls' schools and mandate separate classes for boys and girls from the age of nine.
The law, published on Monday, would go into effect next school year and applies throughout the coastal enclave, including in private, Christian-led and United Nations schools.
Critics of the new measures say the Islamist movement is trying to force its ideology on society, but proponents say they merely want to codify conservative Palestinian values into law.
"We are a Muslim people. We do not need to make people Muslims, and we are doing what serves our people and their culture," Waleed Mezher, the Education Ministry's legal adviser, told Reuters.

But Hamas parliamentarians in Gaza acted alone to approve the new education law, and the movement's critics have for years accused it of trying to build a separate state in Gaza.
Zeinab Al-Ghoneimi, a Gaza activist for women's rights, said the new law was part of a Hamas project to impose its values on Gaza residents.
"To say that the old law did not respect the community's traditions and that they (Hamas) wanted to reform people now is an insult to the community," Ghoneimi told Palestinian radio.
"Instead of hiding behind traditions, why don't they say clearly they are Islamists and they want to Islamize the community," she said.
Private and Christian schools, where classes are mixed until high school, would be the most affected by the decision. Gaza's government-run schools were already mostly gender-segregated.
The Gaza Education Ministry said the private schools had been invited to discuss the legislation before it was enacted but failed to do so.
Hamas leaders have repeatedly denied accusations by human rights groups they are trying to impose Islamic laws on Gaza.
Rights activists have criticized moves by Hamas's government in recent years to impose Islamic dress on female lawyers and school girls, ban men from working as hairdressers for women and interrogate couples walking in Gaza's streets.

Stockman Warns of Crash Of Fed-Fueled Bubble Economy - Bloomberg

'The U.S. economy is in a bubble inflated by "phony money" from the Federal Reserve
 and will burst within a few years, warned David Stockman, who was budget director for President Ronald Reagan.

In an essay published yesterday in the New York Times (NYT), Stockman wrote that the Fed's quantitative easing policies in the aftermath of the credit crisis have flooded stock markets with cash even while the "Main Street economy" remains weak. The combination, he wrote, is "unsustainable."

"When it bursts, there will be no new round of bailouts like the ones the banks got in 2008," wrote Stockman, a former senior managing director at Blackstone Group LP (BX) and a former Republican congressman from Michigan. "Instead, America will descend into an era of zero-sum austerity and virulent political conflict, extinguishing even today's feeble remnants of economic growth."'

Who's Next? Italy's Monte Paschi Admits To Billions In Deposit Outflows | Zero Hedge

'It appears, given news from Italy today, that European depositors are increasingly coming to therealization that deposits in their local bank are not 'safe' places to put their spare cash, but are in fact loans to extremely leveraged businesses. In a somewhat wishy-washy, 'hide-the-truth'-like statement on Monte dei Paschi's website, the CEO admits to, "the withdrawal of several billion in deposits." Of course, the reasons why these depositors withdrew their capital from the oldest bank in the world will never be known though of course he blames it on "reputational damage" from their derivative cheating scandal.

Apparently the fact that this happened to come about six week after said scandal and the bank's third bailout, and that the prior two bailouts did not result in such an outflow of unsecured liabilities (at least not to the public's knowledge), was lost on the senior management, as was lost that a far greater catalyst may have been the slightly more troubling events in Cyprus in the second half of March. Unsurprisingly, as Reuters notes, the CEO declined to give a forecast on the level of deposits at the end of the first quarter of 2013; no wonder given the bank just doubled its expectations for bad loans and the 'Cypriot Solution' dangling over uninsured depositor hordes.

Customers' deposits at Italian bank Monte dei Paschi fell by "a few billion euros" ... the bank said in a document posted on its web site on Saturday.'

Ed Balls: Labour ran a structural deficit in 2007 - Telegraph

When you hear the Labour party or it's propaganda arm, the BBC claiming that the last Labour government was running a prudent economic policy and was only blown off course by the 2008. banking crisis, remember that:

'Ed Balls has admitted that the Labour government was spending more than it raised in taxes even before the financial crisis began.

Under pressure from the BBC's Andrew Neil, the shadow chancellor conceded that the UK had a structural deficit at the end of the "boom years" running up to 2007/8.

A structural deficit is a gap between tax revenues and spending that is not addressed by normal economic growth, and can only be filled by tax rises or spending cuts.'
