Is Israel and Apartheid State?

The claim that Israel is an apartheid state is being ever more often thrown around the blogosphere and beyond at the moment. I have shown that the claim is nonsense before now and I have tried to spread that truth, here's another video that all the haters of Israel should be made to watch...

It's Israel's fault for responding to attack

It seems that the world is pretty much decided that Israel is to blame for what is happening in Gaza, as it's Israel's fault for responding to attack. Here's a cartoon that nicely illustrates the logical flaw in this argument.

The BBC - plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

The BBC is institutionally anti-Israel, of that there is little doubt. Israel is the only Jewish state in the world (albeit one that is over 25% Muslim in population), so does that make the BBC institutionally anti-Semitic? I am not sure about this but it is pretty clear that to the BBC a good Jew is one who doesn't fight back when attacked. The Jews who died in the holocaust were victims of terror and the BBC support them in their deaths, Jews who fight back against Islamist terror aren't looked upon so favourably by the BBC.

In 1942 it seems that the BBC attitude was rather similar. Your Jewish News reports that:
'The BBC intentionally failed to warn Jews about the imminent Nazi threat they face, according to newly discovered evidence, the news media reported. A recent documentary program aired on the BBC investigates whether the service of the British Broadcasting Company in Hungary could have done more to save Jews in the country during the Holocaust, but instead chose to turn a blind eye. In 1942, the Civil BBC was on the front lines of the war of propaganda, spreading across the continent in an effort to help the Allied forces war effort. "The BBC aired news reports every day, giving an update on the war, general news and opinion articles on Hungarian politics. But among all these issues, there are important things that were not said, things that could have warned thousands of Hungarian Jews from the horrors to come in case of a German occupation," explains a historian Professor Ladislaus Lob. The professor is also a survivor of the Nazi concentration camp in Bergen-Belsen. According to the report, a note that sets policy for the Hungarian BBC in 1942 clearly stated: "Not to mention the Jews at all." The memo was written by Carlile Macartney, an advisor to the Foreign office in Hungary at the time. "Macartney believed that defending the Jews will alienate the majority of the Hungarian population at that time, which according to him, were anti-Semitic," Lob said. "Since British directors of the BBC wanted to draw German troops into Hungary and call them an occupying force, the argument was that the anti-Semitic Hungarians would not help the Allied forces if they seem too pro-Jewish." "Since December 1942, the British government and the BBC Hungarian Service knew what was happening to European Jews beyond Hungary, and they knew the most likely destination for the Jews of Hungary when the Germans invaded," he continued.'
The BBC and Jews - 'plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose'

"I'm not anti-Semitic, I am anti-Zionist"

"I'm not anti-Semitic, I am anti-Zionist" - That's the line I see all the time on Twitter and hear in the media. Well you tolerant people, here's what Dr Martin Luther King had to say on the matter:
"When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews. You're talking anti-Semitism!"
Here's what I wrote  about this almost exactly a year ago and here's the Huffington Post today. I raely agree with the Huffington Post, but in this instance they are correct.

Here's another Martin Luther King quote via that Huffington Post artcile:
"Peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist, its territorial integrity. I see Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of what can be done, how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood and democracy. Peace for Israel means security and that security must be a reality."
Dr. King said this on March 25, 1968, two weeks before his death.

It's all about Zionism not Judaism - really? Language is NSFW

This took place at the 'pro-Palestinian demonstration in San Francisco on 16 November 2012.

Why on earth would anyone think that some/many pro-Palestinian demonstrators are anti-Semitic?

Oh I don't know, maybe it's the yelling of "Fuck you Jew, Fuck you Jew".

Israelly Cool has more video of such delightful demonstrators including the chant of "Zionist scum, you're time has come"

The BBC correct their 'error' but don't apologise

Further to this post re the BBC's regular inability to show Egypt on maps of Gaza's neighbours, I have finally received a response from the BBC.

I wonder how long it will be before I have to point out this same 'error' again?

Here's the new map...

Much more accurate than the old one...

Piff The Magic Dragon

Piff The Magic Dragon didn't fool Penn and Teller but entertained me.

For Mrs NotaSheep who had never heard this song before

Gary Numan and The Tubeway Army - "Are Friends Electric".

This is the Old Grey Whistle Test version, not the single. I feel the performance is better than the Top Of The Pops one, although the song is not as pure.

Mrs NotaSheep only knew "Cars", now she feels educated!

When does violence in Middle East become newsworthy?

DryBones right on the money, as is so often the case. This cartoon is actually from two years ago, prescient or just bloody predictable?

A truly original music video - Slightly NSFW - Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra 'Want It Back' (Official Video)(Uncensored)

Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra 'Want It Back'
I love the way the lyrics flow over her body, bedding etc. It holds the eye and helps people like me who don't always get the lyrics straihght off.

I have posted about Amanda Palmer before, back in 2010, take a look here

From that post here's her 'karaoke' cover of 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun'

Hey BBC What Size Are All These Countries? | The BBC report Israel differently from all other countries

http://www.israellycool.com/2012/07/30/hey-bbc-what-size-are-all-these-countries

What about Spain and Melilla & Ceuta?

In case you are wondering

Yes I am avoiding opining on the latest round of Israel-Palestinian violence. My views on the general situation are well documented and I am sure everyone familiar with them could extrapolate from them. However the usual claim of Israel making a disproportionate response has been raised.

Apparently the might of the IDF armed with 'war planes', tanks and well armed soldiers versus a few thousand terrorists is disproportionate.

Oddly the same argument was not used when terrorists fire Katyusha missiles at Israeli civilians. Likewise proportionality was ignored when Islamic terrorists massacred the unarmed Fogle family in their beds?Mind you in that instance, the BBC did their level best to ignore that story altogether.

Penn and Teller saw a lady in half... twice!

Not as popular an internet subject as Jennifer Aniston's but still my public has requested, so...

Danny Baker on the Jonathan Ross Show

"Possibly the greatest radio presenter" - Possibly?

Isn't Google good!

I have had a significant increase in traffic to my site over the past few days and on investigation it seems that the increase was due to one of the maps contained in this article from July last year. That article was about the BBC deliberately misleading people as to the countries that border Gaza. Here's what I wrote then:
'In the BBC article headlined 'Israel forces 'kill two militants in central Gaza'', the BBC include this map

This map makes it seem as though Israel is both enormous and surrounds Gaza thus explaining how Israel has been able to blockade it for some years now. There is of course a problem with this - Israel does not surround Gaza. The country that borders Gaza to the South East is Egypt not Israel, that is where the Rafah Crossing is...

So why have the BBC omitted the word Egypt from that first map? If the BBC come back and say it was an unfortunate accident due to the scale of the map I will not believe them...'
Coincidentally I raised the same issue just over a week ago. There seems to be a pattern emerging.  In fact on perusing my blog I also found this article from June 2010 that included a different but similarly misleading map, here's the relevant extract:
'The BBC and other media claim that Israel has sealed Gaza off from the outside world. This is a map of Gaza from the BBC website...
Note that both Gaza and Israel are clearly marked. What is not marked is the other country that borders Gaza to its South-West, Egypt. Egypt has a 11km border with Gaza through which as much aid or even trade could pass as Egypt wants. The BBC often claim that Israel 'controls' the crossings into Gaza. If Egypt wanted t open its border to Gaza it could do so but it does not want to. The Egyptians know what sort of government is in power in Gaza and what they want to achieve. Hamas and its colleagues in the Muslim Brotherhood want to see the destruction of Israel but their view of Egypt's future is not one that the Egyptian government approve of.'
The BBC's anti-Israel stance is well documented on this blog and others. Their refusal to release the Balen Report and their spending of, so far, around £300,000 on legal argument to keep it secret hardly inspires confidence in their lack of bias. So I hope that people looking for a map of Gaza also found some interesting information re the BBC, Israel and Gaza.
