Now there will be trouble, or not

Last night in a BBC drama a Koran was shown being ripped into pieces and then thrown on a fire to burn, followed by other books. Various radical Islamists have cried Islamophobia and declared this an attack on their religion. A march on the BBC TV Centre is planned for later today and calls have been made for the sacking of the Controller of BBC Drama and the Chairman of the BBC Trust. The BBC are readying an apology and a programme about the sanctity of religious texts.

Well that is what would likely have happened had it been a Koran that was shown being ripped apart and then burnt but in fact last night it was a 'Holy Bible' that was so treated near the end of episode 2 of The Crimson Petal and the White. You can watch for yourself on iPlayer from 54:33. So there have been no complaints from the Archbishop of Canterbury or the Catholic church, no calls for resignations at the BBC, barely a word of protest.

We know that the BBC accords the Koran protection from attack or satire that it does not accord to the Bible; the question is why?

Why?

Two reasons.

1) They hate Christianity as much as Muslims.

2) They're scared of having a knife stuck in their chest.

Jeezo. That's an incredibly speculative opening paragraph, is it not?

Was there perhaps barely a word of protest because perhaps many of the viewers had already read the novel and knew what to expect? Was it because it was a drama and some people with more intelligence than yourself are able to separate fact from fiction?

I am getting really fedup with my recent commenters who seem to miss the point evert time. Do you really not understand? Do you really not know what is going on around you? Do you not know of murderers that 'resulted' from Pastor Tery Jones acts?

You deliberately misunderstand me. I know it's fiction, I can tell the difference. Now tell me what would happen if a drama showed the Koran being burned; would Islamists say it's fiction that's fine? What about if it was just a book with Koran on the front?
