Children in restaurants and other shared public places

I am fed up to the back teeth with noisy children in restaurants and other public places. Obviously the ideal would be to have child-free areas where civilized adults could enjoy intelligent conversation without the cries of mewling brats. Failing that how about this that I found on the web:
'We welcome well-behaved children, when accompanied by an adult, but we may ask to seat families in designated areas.'
I shall carry printouts of this from now on to give as suggestions to restaurateurs who think that screaming babies and badly behaved children are in some way appropriate for their venue.

Hear, hear. But parents also need to make sure that the little darlings stay seated in their designated area please, not have 'em running around the restaurant "playing" at the tops of their voices.
