Those genoicidal Israelis

As posted on Biased BBC by 'Pounce', I couldn't have worded it better myself:
'The bBC and its customary Anti-Israel article and half the story

Israel-Gaza conflict: One year on

Israel launched Operation Pillar of Defence, which it says was aimed at ending rocket fire from Gaza, with the killing of a Hamas military leader. Israel subsequently carried out hundreds of air strikes on the territory, while Hamas and other groups fired hundreds of rockets into Israel.
According to the United Nations, a total of 174 Palestinians were killed, at least 168 of them by Israeli military action, including 101 believed to have been civilians. Hamas’ health ministry says 185 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed. Two Israeli soldiers and four Israeli civilians were killed by rocket or mortar fire from Gaza, the Israeli authorities say

So the bBC reminisces, when Israel went to war against Gaza in which to try and stop missile being launched from Gaza into Israel. (funny enough hours after the Emir of Qatar visited and said he would hand over lots of money) but that is by the by. Have a look at the death figures the bBC quotes in which to play the victim card for Hamas. Remember that Gaza is one of the most populated strips of land in the world. I quote:

Israel subsequently carried out hundreds of air strikes on the territory,

Resulting in:

a total of 174 Palestinians were killed, at least 168 of them by Israeli military action, including 101 believed to have been civilians.

So the most heavily armed airforce in the Middle East which carried out hundreds of air strikes (Actually the figure is in excess of 1500 air strikes) on a mostly civilian population and only manages to kill 174 people.

Am I missing something here, but is either the IDF that pants that in carrying out 1500+ air strike they only managed to kill 178 people in one of the most densely populated strips of land in the world, or did they go out of their way in which to target only those who live by the sword. Anybody who has been near a 1000lb bomb when it is dropped will understand what I mean (I was over a mile away)
and yet the bBC doesn’t look at that angle instead it blinds the reader to the blood lust of the jew. which the facts don’t support.'
The BBC's hatred of Israel has fed a deep anti-Israel feeling in this country. I am regularly told that Israel is 'uniquely evil' and am told of all sorts of hateful things that Israel has done, most of which are either made up or nowhere near as bad as that carried out by its Arab neighbours (and Iran who don't like to be called Arabs) but I am also told that as Israel claims to be democratic it should be judged by stricter standards - yes holding Israel (the only nominally Jewish state) to  higher standards than it's very Muslim neighbours is anti-Semitic but then so are most of the anti-Israel brigade.

The BBC are so obvious in their bias

The Bank of England governor, Mark Carney, has said that the UK economy will grow faster and unemployment will fall sooner than expected. So how do the BBC report this?

'UK recovery takes hold, say Bank'
'Peston: Is recovery too robust?'

The BBC aren't scared of showing their bias are they?

Whatever the Robert Peston piece says, the headline for it sends a very deliberate message to the person browsing the news.

David Dimbleby got his tattoo wrong as well

Boing Boing reports that:
'Famous, respected UK journalist and TV presenter David Dimbleby, 75, recently got his first ink: of a six-legged scorpion. Unfortunately, scorpions are arachnids, with eight legs. The scramble is on to identify a face-saving species that the tattoo could represent: the best bet so far is the Whip Scorpion, which has six good legs and two crappy, vestigial ones used as feelers; and various scorpion-esque arthropods.'
Famous - yes, respected - not necessarily.

This week's winner is Eric Pickles for this insight:
'I recognise that my own party would probably be, its election prospects would be, better off if Scotland left'

"No shit, Sherlock"

I for one am fed-up with the way that England, no let's be honest, the way that mostly London and the South East of England support the Scots via the Barnett Formula. In return what do we get? Scots voting on English legislation when the same does not apply in reverse - the West Lothian Question, Scots taking English money whilst moaning about being 'ruled by the English' - since the last three Prime Ministers have been either Scottish, Scottish educated or have Scottish roots I'll take that claim with more than a pinch of salt.

Hey Twitter, where's my $595?

Twitter's floatation has provided a handy basis for measuring the value that each Twitter user has contributed to that company's valuation. Time has produced a simple calculator that tells you how much Twitter 'owes' you based on the value you created for it.

 So where's my $595?

North Korea 'Publicly Executes 80 People' - Yahoo News UK

'North Korea has reportedly publicly executed 80 people for watching South Korean television shows. The unconfirmed killings, said to be the first known large-scale executions by the Kim Jong-Un regime, took place across seven cities earlier this month, a source told South Korea's  JoongAng Ilbo Daily.

Eight people had their heads covered with white sacks and were tied to stakes at Shinpong Stadium in Wonsan, in Kangwon Province, as they were shot dead by North Korean forces, the newspaper reported.

Witnesses apparently told the source that authorities forced some 10,000 people, including children, to watch the execution."I heard from the residents that they watched in terror as the corpses were riddled by machine-gun fire," the source was quoted as saying.'

But to too many anti Semitic idiots, this is of no interest as Israel is the 'evil state'.

The Bechdel Test

The Bechdel Test received quite a lot of coverage on the BBC, Women's Hour were especially excited by the idea of rating films according to how female friendly they were - if only all films could be like Fried Green Tomatoes!

Here's a cartoon that explains a problem with the Bechdel Test...

Well I did really enjoy Alien, mostly for the action and suspense but not at all for the female to female conversation between Ripley and Lambert.

However these images may also partly explain my fondness for Alien and the soft spot that I still have for Sigourney Weaver...

Is the BBC stacking its audiences against UKIP?

'... the BBC could be spicing up its debates by placing people in the audience "who can be relied on to take a rehearsed and provocative line" after producers identify them through BBC-run phone-ins where their names and opinions have been logged for future consideration as audience members. '

To be fair it's not just UKIP that the BBC rig their audiences against, it's the Conservatives as well.

I remember this well, Bambi on the opening leg, Derek Redmond soon to be famous for needing his father's help to finish the Olympic 400 metre final, Jon Regis doing a typically great 400 metre run (why did he not run it as an individual) and Kris Akabusi showing that on his day a 400 metre hurdles bronze medallist can beat a 400 metre flat gold medallist.

"The question was, do you get through a lot of eggs?"

One of the funniest bits of A League Of Their Own as Richard Ayode grills Jamie Rednapp about eggs.

I am in agreement with Alistair McGowan

I've just watched Room 101 on BBC One and find myself in agreement with Alistair McGowan. He wanted to put children into Room 101 because they are taking over and beer drinking because eating ice cream is better and more civilised.

Update: He also wants to ban headphones that force you to  listen to someone else's choice of 'music'.

John Cole hmmm

The BBC's John Cole has died but there was a really odd comment that struck me in one of the BBC tributes. I paraphrase: 'Before John Cole, political journalists said "on the one hand this, on the other hand...". John Cole changed that and said what he thought'.

Hmm I do like it when the BBC admit they don't try and see both sides of a debate.

Christians are Disappearing from the Middle East except from Israel

'The Christian population in the Muslim Middle East has plunged from 20% a century ago to less than 5% today—and it's falling fast. Arab Christianity, for centuries a dominant force in Middle East culture, religion and politics, now faces extinction in nearly every country in the region.

Discrimination and persecution by Muslim governments, as well as murderous attacks by Islamic extremists, are driving Christians from their homelands by the millions.

In fact, the only country in the Middle East in which Christians are safe—and where their numbers are growing—is Israel.'

Vice President Joe Biden makes another gaffe but don't expect any coverage on the pro US Democratic Party BBC

When Marty Walsh won the Boston mayor's race, Vice President Joe Biden was quick to pick up the phone to congratulate him.

However the Marty Walsh who Biden had called wasn't the Marty Walsh who had been elected to succeed longtime Boston Mayor Thomas Menino.

The Marty Walsh who Biden had a was a former aide to the late US Senator Edward Kennedy.

If a Republican President, Vice President or senior figure had made such a gaffe it would be gleefully reported by the BBC as an example of right wing stupidity. However as Joe Biden is a Democratic Party Vice President, I confidently predict silence from the BBC on this story.

Ten Basic Points: Israel’s Rights to Judea and Samaria - Op-Eds - Israel National News

A must read for the anti-Semites who seem to have very little grasp of history or law.
'The territories of Judea and Samaria remain in dispute between Israel and the Palestinians, subject only to the outcome of permanent status negotiations between them.'

Derelection of duty

The BBC's latest report on Obamacare introduces us to Marilyn Tavenner, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Much later in the report we learn that 'Ms Tavenner said she could not take a position on the bill because she had not read it'

So Barack Obama's head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services hasn't read The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare. Am I alone in thinking that she should have read it and not to do so is a dereliction of duty?

You mean Barack Obama was lying? I am shocked...

President Barack Obama publicly promised at least 36 times since 2008 that his health care reform plan, Obamacare, would not cause anyone who liked their present health insurance to lose it. Sometimes he emphasised his remarks with an emphatic “Period.”, no room for any doubt there. Barack Obama made this pledge in some of his weekly video addresses, many of his campaign rallies and in town hall meetings

However, news broke last week that his administration knew in 2010 that millions of Americans would lose their coverage. Not that you'd know from the BBC's coverage of the story which still tries to protect the great Obamamessiah.

On Monday Barack Obama “tweaked” his so many times repeated promise during a speech to the Organizing for Action group. Now his promise runs: “If you have, or had, one of these plans, before the Affordable Care Act came into law, and you really liked that plan, what we said was you could keep it, if it hasn’t changed since the law’s passed,” Obama said. No, that's not what he said, "Period".

Watch the video and see what you think, did Barack Obama lie?

Piers Morgan, the BBC and phone-hacking

As news breaks that the four civil cases against The Mirror Group have been given leave to proceed, I note two things:

1. the news has yet to make the BBC news website where a search for 'Piers Morgan' returns just this:
which is odd because every twist and turn in the cases against News International were headline news on the BBC

2. that a court will now be able to test the veracity of Piers Morgan's statement that:
"I have never hacked a phone, told anyone to hack a phone, or published any stories based on the hacking of a phone."
The BBC's obsession with destroying News International, The Mail, indeed any even vaguely right of centre news group that might dilute the spreading of their incessantly left-wing narrative is so blatant that it hardly bears mentioning.

I don't know if there was any phone-hacking at The Mirror Group, nor do I know if Piers Morgan knew of such activities (should there have been any) but I do look forward to the truth emerging - I just wonder if the BBC will report it as fully as they did the various News International cases.

BBC News - Concentrations of warming gases breaks record

The BBC report with all seriousness that:
'According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), atmospheric CO2 grew more rapidly last year than its average rise over the past decade.'
They seem less keen to report that despite this rise in 'global warming gases' temperatures have not risen for 15 years.

Just when you thought the Muslim Brotherhood couldn't stoop any lower - Muslim Brotherhood caught using puppies as fire bombs

The Washington Post reports that:
'A pet rescue operation has saved three puppies from Muslim Brotherhood clutches, after discovering the militant members were dousing the animals with gasoline, setting them on fire and throwing them into the chaos of a Tahrir Square demonstration, as makeshift bombs.
Robyn Urman, a rescuer with the New Jersey group, Pet ResQ Inc, said this isn't the first time Muslim Brotherhood members had been busted trying to use animals as gasoline-fired bombs, Breitbart reported. And this particular discovery didn't end well for all the dogs.

Egypt's Coptic Christians face unprecedented reprisals from the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Muslim Brotherhood members were caught near Tahrir pouring gasoline over more than 20 puppies — but only three could be saved.'
More here at the Washington Post but almost certainly not on the pro Muslim Brotherhood BBC.

Falkirk Labour party update - news you won't hear about on the pro-Labour BBC

As if the revelations in the Sunday Times about the Falkirk selection process were not enough, apparently
Investigators saw evidence of:
Forgery
Coercion
Trickery
Manipulation'
The Mail now reports:
'The whistleblower at the centre of Labour’s vote-rigging scandal last night sensationally rejected claims by Unite that she had withdrawn her story.

Lorraine Kane triggered a major probe into alleged electoral corruption when she revealed her family had been signed up to the Labour Party without their consent. It happened as Unite activists were waging a bitter battle to seize control of the safe Labour seat of Falkirk, where she lives.
This led to claims that she and others had been signed up as Labour members without their agreement in a bid by the union to manipulate the candidates’ selection. They allegedly hoped to flood the seat with members who they thought could be persuaded to back Unite’s choice to be the party’s prospective MP.

The investigation into Mrs Kane’s case was dropped suddenly in September, after Unite officials produced documents stating that she had withdrawn her claims.

But, speaking for the first time, Mrs Kane, 61, told the Mail: ‘I did not change the testimony. I did not change anything. I did not withdraw anything.’ She is now demanding to know whether the evidence she gave was tampered with by Unite.

I want all the emails to see what’s what,’ she said. ‘I haven’t seen them. This has been going on for months. I don’t know what the emails are saying. I want to see everything so I know what was said and if anything was changed from what I said.’

Her statement is entirely at odds with public claims made by the union. Only today Unite leader Len McCluskey said: ‘The evidence from the families has been withdrawn’, adding that Unite had ‘no case to answer.’

Mrs Kane’s bombshell claims appear to undermine the grounds on which Labour leader Ed Miliband closed his investigation into the vote-rigging allegations.'
Somehow I doubt that the BBC will cover this story in any depth as their interest in political stories is governed largely by their desire to advance the cause of certain political parties at the expense of others.

Background checks on all prospective gun owners in the USA?

I believe that Obama supporters are in favour of background checks on all prospective gun owners in the USA? How about in Syria?

Undoubtedly true

'The Syrian crisis remains absent from Palestinian talking points because Palestinians are still far more intent on destroying the Jewish state–inter alia by flooding it with millions of Palestinian refugees–than in making the compromises needed to get a state of their own and absorb those refugees themselves. And that's also precisely why peace remains impossible.'

"There is no room for prejudice of any kind in sport or in society."

These were the words used by The International Tennis Federation who have suspended Tunisia from the Davis Cup tennis tournament after Tunisian player Malek Jaziri was ordered not to compete against an Israeli opponent last month. The International Tennis Federation said there was no room for prejudice in sport and the one-year ban was a "fitting penalty".

Finally a world sports federation takes action against one of the Muslim racist states. Plenty more need to follow suit.

The answer is the 1982 French Grand Prix when three Frenchmen stepped up onto the podium of the Paul Ricard. René Arnoux finished first, ahead of his Renault team-mate Alain Prost, with Didier Pironi finishing third. In fact yet another Frenchman, Patrick Tambay, finished fourth.

Well airport security can be trying

The rigmarole at British airports of removing your laptop and/or tablet from your carry-on bag, but not your pda (why the distinction? when does a pda become a tablet? 4", 5", 7", 9"?), then removing your coat or jacket but not always a cardigan or windcheater, removing your belt and sometimes your shoes can be rather trying.

Putting everything back into place whilst not holding up the queue too much is also extremely irritating but we'll leave that for the moment.

Many is the time that I've joked to Mrs NotaSheep and other nearby passengers that before long they'll require us to all strip completely before going through the magic arch. Well according to the Daily Mail two passengers at Manchester Airport tried to just that. Apparently:
'Hadfield-Hyde told the court that security guard Abdullah Mayet had indicated that she should take off all her clothes before passing through the scanner. She said: ‘He was pointing at me saying, “Off”. I said to him, “Do you mean just my jacket?”, but he was saying, “Off, off, all off”.’

I think I see the problem, I've also experienced the occasional security guard whose grasp of English is somewhat shaky and whose attitude is rude and dismissive. Indeed Mrs NotaSheep almost got into a serious row with one such security guard at a London airport when they put her carry-on bag to one side for manual checking but then just left it there for almost half  an hour rather than check it. That security guard seemed to be of a similar racial background to the guard in this instance, as Mrs NotaSheep says, some of these people just don't know how to deal with modern women.

The BBC's Middle East Desk don't like being questioned

Further to this story, the BBC have sent me a rather supercilious reply:

Dear Mr MaybeaGoat

This is not an issue which deserves apologies or admissions of right or wrong - in other words, point-scoring. We were happy to add the label of Egypt to the map, but as we said in our previous reply, it was not out of necessity.

Kind regards

Middle East desk
BBC News website
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world/middle_east/
http://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/handle-complaint/
Do you think they're not happy being questioned?

I have responded by email, but since this particular desk seem incapable of responding to my emails, I will also log another complaint.

Here's my response:
Excuse me but I am not point scoring, I am simply asking why the BBC omitting the label Egypt in 2012 was apologised for by the BBC, calling it 'plain shoddy work for which we apologise' but in 2013 when the same omission on the same map is repeated I am told that the subsequent correction was 'not done out of necessity' and that no apology was required.

Why was the BBC apologetic in 2012 but today I am told that 'This is not an issue which deserves apologies or admissions of right or wrong'? Was the BBC wrong to apologise in 2012 or wrong not to apologise now? Was what was 'plain shoddy work' in 2012 deemed acceptable in 2013?
May I remind you of the BBC Charter, Guidelines, Section 1: The BBC's Editorial Values, Editorial Values, 1.2.11 Accountability
'We are accountable to our audiences and will deal fairly and openly with them.  Their continuing trust in the BBC is a crucial part of our relationship with them.  We will be open in acknowledging mistakes when they are made and encourage a culture of willingness to learn from them.'
Regards
NotaSheep MaybeaGoat

And here is what I wrote on my follow-up complaint, managing to use all available characters:

'Your response to my complaint was 'This is not an issue which deserves apologies or admissions of right or wrong - in other words, point-scoring. We were happy to add the label of Egypt to the map, but as we said in our previous reply, it was not out of necessity.'

This response didn't answer my complaint.

I am not point scoring, I am simply asking why the BBC omitting the label Egypt in 2012 was apologised for by the BBC, calling it 'plain shoddy work for which we apologise' but in 2013 when the same omission on the same map is repeated I am told that the subsequent correction was 'not done out of necessity' and that no apology was required.

'We are accountable to our audiences and will deal fairly and openly with them.  Their continuing trust in the BBC is a crucial part of our relationship with them.  We will be open in acknowledging mistakes when they are made and encourage a culture of willingness to learn from them.'

Please have the decency to answer my legitimate questions relating to BBC Editorial Values rather than sending me another terse, dismissive response.'

Double entendre of the day?

The BBC report that:
'A passenger on a plane travelling to Luton Airport from Israel has been questioned by police after a snake was discovered on the flight.

The man had brought his "small pet snake" on-board the Easyjet flight from Tel Aviv, the airline confirmed.

A spokesman said passengers were "not in any danger". It was later found to be a "harmless" corn snake.'
But it was this that caught my eye:
'Hugo Allon tweeted: "My plane is being met by police because someone brought a snake on board and whipped it out mid flight. Never a dull moment with Easyjet."'
Whipped his snake out during a flight, was it hidden in his trousers?

The BBC report that:
'A list of "shell" companies where firms keep money offshore will be published to discourage tax evasion, David Cameron will announce later.

Ministers had already announced the register, intended to lift the "cloak of secrecy" around company ownership.

But the prime minister will say making the register public will make it easier for firms and developing countries to know who they are doing business with.

Labour, anti-corruption campaigners and charities welcomed the move.

Speaking at the Open Government Partnership summit in London later, Mr Cameron will say a small minority of companies have hidden their business dealings in a "complex web of shell companies" for too long.'
When this happens I wonder what we will discover about Windrush Ventures Ltd.?

Why a democratic UK is doomed along with the rest of Western civilisation

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'
The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
  • From bondage to spiritual faith;
  • From spiritual faith to great courage;
  • From courage to liberty;
  • From liberty to abundance;
  • From abundance to selfishness;
  • From selfishness to complacency;
  • From complacency to apathy;
  • From apathy to dependence;
  • From dependence back into bondage.
The Tytler Cycle by 18th century Scots historian Alexander Tytler, although there is some debate over how much of the above is Tytler and how much has a 20th century source.

Regardless of the debate over attribution, this part seems to cover Western civilisation's problems very neatly:
'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy...'
The Labour party in the UK, similar parties across Europe and the Democratic party in the USA laid the bait and enough of the electorate have taken it to make left-wing governments the norm from now on. Gordon Brown's expansion of the welfare state to try and ensure that as many people a possible were sucking on the teat of public money is the man most culpale in the UK, I detest that man so much.

Gordon Brown 'an ex-politician' - apart from taking an MP's salary of course

My distaste for Gordon 'broken moral compass' Brown is on record, so this recent admission of his does not surprise me in the slightest.

Compare and Contrast

When ex-Conservative Prime Minister John Major intervened in the energy price debate, the BBC made it headline news. When Tony Blair expresses regret that Labour had not cut spending before the recession struck, the BBC just don't report the story.

Why other than wanting to cause the Conservative government embarrassment but protect the Labour opposition from similar embarrassment could the explanation for this be?

The true story here is that the Fundamental Spending Review, which Tony Blair says “didn’t really go anywhere”, offered an opportunity to make savings. Instead, it was sunk out of anti-Blair spite by Gordon Brown – with Ed Milband and Ed Balls in his team.

Tongue in cheek or serious?

One comment caught my eye on the BBC's story that 'A petition demanding the government reverse a ban on schoolchildren in England taking holidays during term-time will be delivered later.'

Is this serious or tongue in cheek?

'8.

Quite right, I myself have 6 children and it's a nightmare with plane fares when we go to Florida at peak times. The government need to help struggling families like mine cope with this.'

Elder Of Ziyon - Israel News: Egypt closes Rafah for fourth day, media still mostly silent

Who's taller comedian Greg Davies or Pointless's Richard Osman?

Who's taller comedian Greg Davies or Pointless's Richard Osman?

According to Wikipedia, Greg Davies 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) tall and has size 13 feet whilst Richard Osman is 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m) (his shoes size is not recorded).

So Greg Davies is taller but his size 13 feet seem a little small, I'm only 5ft 9in and have size 12 feet - yes everything else is in proportion.

Lou Reed has died, I am most upset

Lou Reed has died, one of the true greats is no more. This is quite definitely not a Perfect Day.
I am a huge Lou Reed fan and I think that I will leave the Internet for tonight and listen to some Velvet Underground and then some solo work.

Miliband duped by union dirty tricks in vote-rigging probe | Mail Online

Some more news that you won't find reported on the BBC.
'Ed Miliband was facing fresh embarrassment over his relationship with Labour's union paymasters last night after secret emails suggested he had been duped by a 'dirty tricks' campaign orchestrated by them.

A cache of 1,000 messages was said to have disclosed how bosses at Unite subverted an inquiry ordered by the Opposition leader into vote-rigging claims.

In the summer, Mr Miliband suspended the selection process in the safe Scottish seat of Falkirk following allegations that Britain's biggest trade union had packed the local constituency party with its supporters to get  its candidate chosen.

But last month the Labour leader was forced to back down after local activists withdrew their complaints.

Now new evidence has come to light in the Sunday Times suggesting that Unite was indeed trying to rig the selection and then cover it up. The emails alleging dirty tricks have been passed to police in Scotland, who earlier ruled out an inquiry – and there will now be fresh pressure on Labour to reopen its own probe.'

Svensmark: “global warming stopped and a cooling is beginning” – “enjoy global warming while it lasts” | Watts Up With That?

'It's important to realise that the Little Ice Age was a global event. It ended in the late 19th Century and was followed by increasing solar activity. Over the past 50 years solar activity has been at its highest since the medieval warmth of 1000 years ago. But now it appears that the Sun has changed again, and is returning towards what solar scientists call a "grand minimum" such as we saw in the Little Ice Age.'

The most incredible piece of CCTV video ever

A dog, a lift, a long lead and a man with 30 eggs... what could possibly go wrong?

LiveLeak.com - Dog escapes near death in an elevator

How did 10 eggs survive that?

I couldn't embed that LiveLeak video (does anyone know how to do that now) but here's a brave dog rescue in similar circumstances from Russia.

he answered them back - no wonder they beat him up.

Live Leak report the case of an American visitor to London who dared to answer a group of Asian men back and was beaten to a pulp for his insolence.
An American student has been scarred for life after being subjected to a violent gang attack on only his third day in London.

CCTV cameras caught Francesco Hounye, a 22-year-old from Florida, being set upon by a gang of five Asian men on Commercial Road at just after midnight on Monday 17th June.

The group smashed a bottle into his face and then chased after him to continue their assault, repeatedly kicking and punching him - and police believe it happened because he was not a local.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Ben Mott said: "The victim has an Italian accent, his own style of dress and mannerisms and, when challenged by the Asian males, answered them back.

"They retaliated by grabbing the bottle and launching a vicious attack that has left him scarred for life.

He had come to the UK to enhance his studies and has been left so shocked and horrified by what happened that he feels unsafe and is unsure if he wants to stay here.

"The CCTV footage is exceptionally clear and I believe the suspects to be local. I would ask people to please look closely at the faces of the attackers and help us identify them. I am positive someone would know who they are from looking at the footage."

Francesco said in a statement to police: "As a result of this incident I am now scared to go out on my own in London. I am a visitor to the UK and was considering continuing my studies here but this incident has made me think twice. "I feel very emotional about the whole situation. I also now face the rest of my life with the permanent scarring that will be left on my face as a result of this attack. Every time I look in the mirror from now on I will be reminded of this incident."

The suspects are described as Asian and aged in their late teens to early 20s. They are possibly Bengali.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Tower Hamlets CID on 020 7275 4546 or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you feel sick in the pit of your stomach.

I await the BBC's  coverage of this news story, as yet there's nothing on the BBC's London News page. Who am I kidding, the BBC won't report an attack of this type.

What is the true aim of Climate policy?

Climate policy has almost nothing to do anymore with environmental protection, says the German economist and IPCC official Ottmar Edenhofer. Nicely done Are You Being Served?

Are You Being Served was never my favourite sitcom, not very subtle. But the bit from 22:22 to 23:45 is rather good:

Sadly with the death of Frank Thornton (Captain Stephen Peacock) on March 16, 2013 at the age of 92, the only member of the original cast still living is Nicholas Smith (Mr. Cuthbert Rumbold).

At UN, Pakistan Praises Saudi Arabia for Protecting “Women’s Rights” | FrontPage Magazine

'As the UN Human Rights Council scrutinized Saudi Arabia's domestic rights record this morning… out of 95 countries who took the floor, 82 praised Saudi Arabia.

Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based human rights group UN Watch, said the country is poised to win a seat on the Human Rights Council.

"A country whose legal system routinely lashes women rape victims rather than punish the perpetrators should not have been praised effusively by members of the UN's top human rights body," said Neuer. "Instead the world should have addressed the Saudi regime's use of cruel, inhuman and degrading punishments, such as flogging, amputations and eye-gouging."'

More here http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/at-un-pakistan-praises-saudi-arabia-for-protecting-womens-rights

Here's what some United Nations' member states said about Saudi Arabia and human rights:

Afghanistan: “We commend Saudia Arabia as they continue to enhance the protection and promotion of human rights…”

Somalia: “Saudi Arabia maintains a high priority for protection and promotion of human rights…”
Libya: “Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen human rights and promote them and this deserves our appreciation…”
Mauritania, VP of the UNHRC (and a country that practices slavery): “We commend Saudi Arabia for always seeking to strengthen human rights…We commend Saudi Arabia in terms of the progress on guaranteeing fundamental rights and freedoms, socioeconomic progress, participation of women at all levels and participation in society.
China: “We appreciate efforts made to protect the rights of children and to have dialogues of religious tolerance…”
Pakistan: Commended “laudable steps taken by Saudi Arabia to promote and protect the rights of children and women…”
So according to China, Saudi Arabia which arrests Christians for praying, practises religious tolerance.

So according to Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, and the slavers of Mauritania, the Saudis excel at human rights.

So according to Pakistan, a country where raping women is endemic, Saudi Arabia, which won’t let women drive or leave the house, is also breaking new ground in protecting women’s rights.

Satire is dead, what other conclusion is there.

Doctor Who's coming back but what does the trailer mean?

First of all why are some of the Doctor Who iterations not in the trailer? No Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy or Paul McGann - I did originally think that Christopher Eccleston was also missing but he's there at 0:37. Or have I missed them?

Because some things are beyond criticism

The Telegraph reports  something interesting:

BBC 'shelves' Panorama exposé of Comic Relief
The planned broadcast of a Panorama investigation into Comic Relief has reportedly been cancelled after a string of BBC executives ruled themselves out of making decisions about it.
Apparently:
The documentary is understood to examine how the charity allegedly invested £150 million of its funds for up to eight years, before handing the money to the causes for which it had been raised.

Some of the money was allegedly invested in tobacco firms and an arms company.

By the end of last year, the charity was allegedly sitting on £261million in a mixture of shares, bonds and cash.
Even more interestingly:

The six-month investigation also explores how staffing costs at Comic Relief have allegedly almost doubled from £7.1million a year in 2008 to £13.5 million by 2012.

The BBC whose pet projects, like the Labour party, Barack Obama and the Palestinians are beyond criticism.

'Traditional tribal customs' - hmmm really BBC?

The BBC report this:
'A 15-year-old Yemeni girl was burned to death by her father for getting in touch with her fiance before their wedding, police say.

The 35-year-old man was arrested after the teenager's death in the remote village of Shabaa, in Taiz province.

"The father committed this heinous crime on the pretext that his daughter had been keeping in contact with her fiance," a police statement claimed.

Local news websites said he had caught the pair chatting on the telephone.

Traditional tribal customs in some parts of Yemen prohibit contact between men and women before marriage.

Last year, the UN Human Rights council raised concerns about so-called "honour killings" in the country. Perpetrators were not charged with murder, and faced only a six-month to one-year prison sentence, it found.

Accorded a low status in the family and community, many Yemeni women are subjected to various forms of violence, deprivation of education, early and forced marriages, sexual abuse, restrictions over freedom of movement, forced pregnancy, and female genital mutilation.

Last month, there was an outcry after an eight-year-old girl reportedly died of internal bleeding on the night she wed a 40-year-old man.'

A 15-year-old Yemeni girl was burned to death by her father for getting in touch with her fiance before their wedding, honour killers not charged with murder, deprivation of education, early and forced marriage, restrictions over freedom of movement, female genital mutilation and an eight-year-old girl dying of internal bleeding on the night she wed a 40-year-old man. Traditional tribal customs?

Let's look at the demographics in Yemen - 'Virtually all citizens of Yemen are Muslims, either... Shi'a Islam (50%) or ... Sunni Islam (50%) ... There are also approximately 3,000 Christians, 400 Jews, and 40 Hindus.

So Traditional tribal customs or Islam? Not that the BBC could ever admit that.

The USA Maxim Hot 100 for 2013 in 100 seconds - Maybe NSFW

Miley Cyrus at number 1? Really? I do not agree with so many of these choices but then I'm not American and probably not in the target age range either.

This should be interesting

The BBC report that:
'Councils in England should publish annual parking-charge accounts if they want to prove they are not being used as a "cash cow", MPs have said.

The Transport Committee warned it was "neither acceptable nor legal" to use fines to increase revenue.

Councils made a surplus of hundreds of millions of pounds each year, it added.

The MPs urged ministers to freeze charges, currently capped at £130 in London and £70 outside. Councils said money raised went back into services.

Committee chairman, Labour MP Louise Ellman, said: "There is a deep-rooted public perception that parking enforcement is used as a cash cow, so it's essential that local authorities apply stringent transparency."'
If any accounts are published, then I doubt that they will be transparent. Many local councils use parking fines as a form of transgression tax that doesn't show up as an increase in local taxation.

Plebgate

I think that all you need to know can be encapsulated in these few lines from this BBC report:
'On Monday, the three officers said they had not planned to mislead the public.

...

However, in comments made after the meeting, one of the officers, Inspector MacKaill, claimed the former chief whip would not provide an account of the incident, and called for his resignation.

But Mr Mitchell had recorded the meeting, and a transcript showed that he apologised for swearing at the police officers and had denied using the word "plebs".'
An open and shut case? I'm sure the police officers will escape the full weight of the law, police officers do tend to.

What's wrong with advising people to put another jumper on if they are cold?

I listened to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme for just three minutes this morning and there was an example of BBC bias. The interviewee was Jeremy Hunt and the interviewer had to ask, at the end of an interview about trying to stop or reduce NHS tourism, about what people should do if they feel cold but also feel they can't afford to heat their home - should they just put another jumper on, was the sneering question. Of course Jeremy Hunt doesn't want to say so but YES they should.

We can afford to heat our house but that doesn't mean we have the central heating blaring morning, noon and night. It comes on for under an hour in the morning and an hour or so in early evening; during the day there's no need yet. Some houses I go to are heated so everyone can laze around in shorts and t-shirts, why? We sit in jeans and a long sleeve cotton top, if we're cold of an evening then we might put the central heating on for another hour or more likely we'll put on another layer, or even a thin blanket whilst sitting on the sofa.

Heating one's home is a necessity but there's no right to heat to excess. If you're cold put on another layer.

The BBC's anti-Conservative bias blinds them to the truth but also leads them to the inconsistent position where with one breath they tell us we must save energy to save the planet from CO2 induced man made climate change but with the next that we must all have the right to live in homes heated so we can relax in shorts and t-shirts.

What the BBC deliberately doesn't tell you about welfare immigration

'...the UK is one of only five EU states (the others being Finland, Germany, Estonia and Ireland) that offer non contributory benefits to the unemployed. In other words, only if you live in one of those countries are you able to claim unemployment benefits without having paid into the system.

If you or I – or the BBC home affairs editor Mark Easton – pitched up in France, Italy or Greece, we could not claim unemployment benefit without having contributed into the system. (There might, as someone in the comment thread will point out, be a million or so Brits living in Spain, but they have no right to claim any Spanish benefits that their taxes have not contributed towards.)

The European Commission is, however, demanding that if Brits can claim non-contributory unemployment benefit in Britain, then so too must every EU citizen. It is the whole reason why they commissioned this report in the first place.  That there are no corresponding non-contributory entitlements for Brits to claim in most of Europe is something they ignore. We must open our system up to all comers, they insist.'
There's more about this matter from Douglas Carswell in The Telegraph but never in or on the pro-EU, pro-unfettered immigration, pro-Labour BBC.

There you have it, the BBC promoting a view of Islam that is skewed at best.

The Clangers are returning, which means...

I hear that the BBC children's TV show from my childhood, The Clangers, is going to have revamp and return to our TV screens in 2015. I hope they don't ruin my memories of the original...

Of course if the Clangers return, then so will the Soup Dragon.

And talking of Soup Dragons, here's Turning Stone form The Soup Dragons' 1988 album 'This is Our Art', a true indie classic album, look it out, it's in stock at Amazon.

Although Kingdom Chair and Majestic Head are the standout tracks on that album.

British Gas raises gas prices by 35% and electricity prices by 9%

Alert the BBC, ready Ed Miliband for indignation.
' Millions of British Gas customers are set to see their energy bills rise by up to 35% after it announced increases in gas and electricity prices.
The firm, which is the UK's largest domestic energy provider with 16 million residential customers, will raise electricity prices by 9% and gas prices by 35%.
The hike in gas prices is thought to be the biggest ever by a UK energy firm.'
Sorry scrub that, it's news from 2008 so of no interest.
